RoleThis role is based in the Securities Lending Corporate Actions team. The team provides operational support in respect of manufactured corporate action entitlements for Northern Trust’s clients primarily in the US, Canadian and Brazilian markets. The team supports Northern Trust’s agency lending program, client directed lending, and 3rd party lending arrangements.The Consultant will support the Manager with respect to workflow distribution and ensuring the effective use of staff resources. The role requires excellent analytical and investigative skills, previous experience in corporate actions processing, and effective communication skills. There is an expectation that the individual will have the ability to identify appropriate opportunities to improve straight-through processing, and look to enhance best practice. The role involves close liaison with many Securities Lending areas (including Trading Desk, Client Services, Product, Technology and other operations teams in London and Bangalore), other internal partners such as Custody Corporate Actions and external counterparts at our sub-custodians, borrowers and lending agents.Major DutiesProvide day-to-day support and guidance to Corporate Actions Senior Analysts/AnalystsManage daily workflow using established guidelines provided by manager.Conduct control review tasks supporting the completion of work across the Chicago and Bangalore Securities Lending Corporate Actions team. Participate in working groups and represent the team on strategic projects.Monitor corporate event notifications received from sub-custodians, regional custody entitlements teams and borrowers.Liaise with borrowers to ensure that they are duly pre-advised of corporate events where securities are on loan.Ensure borrowers are promptly advised of client elections instructions and that entitlements are accurately processed in a timely manner.Liaise with the regional Custody Entitlements teams and other Securities Lending areas (e.g. Trading Desks, Collateral Desk, Trade Support, Control) as necessary to minimize NT’s exposure.Monitor the team’s exception reports on a daily basis and liaise with the Analysts to ensure items are cleared in a timely basis or escalated where appropriate. Ensure exception narrations as entered in Northern Trust’s exception monitoring applications are self-explanatory, logical, up-to-date and according to business standards.May manage daily operational activities and supervise day-to day- work of junior level employees (but not a formal management role)SkillsA sound understanding and experience of processing various types of Corporate Actions events across various markets. Some experience in a Securities Lending processing environment is beneficial. Knowledge of reconciliation processes for cash and stock is advantageous. Knowledge of Entitlement processing at DTCC is beneficial.Accuracy with a strong attention to detail. Delivers a work product that requires less revisionStrong written and verbal communication skills are essential. This role will require the ability to deal confidently and articulately with external counterparties.Strong questioning skills to determine nature of a problem and assess implications.Ability to grasp new concepts quickly. Able to use this ability to coach others.Able to set priorities and manage deadlines, escalating issues where necessary.Good team player, self-starter, flexible, with the ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision. Able to recognize opportunities for improvement and make constructive suggestions. Looks to take those opportunities forward.Proficiency with Microsoft Office products; macro and Power BI experience a plus.Carries out complex activities with significant financial, client, and/or internal business impactMay have direct interaction with committees and/or Senior ManagementMust have good project management and communication skills and have strong working knowledge of the firm, the industry and technology.Focuses on maintenance and implementation of policies and procedures in the function, building towards becoming an area expert.ExperienceCollege/University degree and/or some relevant work experience is preferred.Related Industry experience or qualifications is preferred.Three or more years of Securities Operations or related business experience is preferred.Salary Range:
$66,700 - 113,300 USDSalary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
