+ You must be able to quickly shift from performing everyday tasks to a rapidly unfolding emergency situation.
+ You'll play a pivotal role in maintaining facility order by guiding and/or directing inmates (in-person or through an intercom system).
+ Learning the layout of the jail facility, both internally and externally.
Essential Functions
Facility Oversight: Actively monitor and facilitate the movement of staff, inmates, and visitors throughout the facility and its perimeter, ensuring a proactive approach to security. Identify and report safety hazards, security threats, disturbances, and irregularities, contributing to a security environment.
Master of Security Consoles: Operate and monitor advanced audio-visual electronic security consoles to control doors, lights, speakers, duress alarms, fire alarms, and other essential functions within the facility. Take charge of the closed-circuit TV (CCTV) system, employing state-of-the-art technology to enhance surveillance and security measures.
Communications: Utilize telephone and radio equipment to efficiently receive and transmit incoming/outgoing calls - fostering seamless communication within the facility.
Emergency Incident Command: Assume the role of the Incident Command Center during emergencies, maintaining continuous communication with jail staff and collaborating with emergency responders.
Data Management: Maintain accurate information on radio and key assignments, track maintenance requests, and log essential data.
Technical Troubleshooter: Notify relevant parties promptly in case of radio, alarm, or technical equipment malfunctions, showcasing your ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively.
Tech Operator: Operate computers, office equipment, and appliances as part of your daily responsibilities, showcasing your proficiency in technological tools. Perform necessary preventive or minor maintenance functions on equipment.
Adaptable Team Player: Undertake any other related duties as assigned, demonstrating your adaptability and commitment to the overall success of the security operations.
Versatility in Schedule: Demonstrate flexibility by working and maintaining eligibility for all shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, whether assigned or on an as-needed or on-call basis.
Job Requirements
New Security Control Specialists start at a Level I pay rate of $20.00/hour. As they progress through the designated steps of the professional development plan, their pay will increase up to $23.25 an hour (Level II $21.75/hour and Level III $23.25/hour.
Shift Information
Generally, three 12-hour shifts and one 4-hour shift per week. Day shift (6:00am-6:00pm) or night shift (6:00pm-6:00am). There are two main work weeks: Sunday – Wednesday and Wednesday – Saturday. Shift pick is every six months.

Our Security Control Specialists work a variety of shifts including days, swings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Working shift work means that you may miss family holidays, birthdays, children's activities and other similar events. Security Control Specialists rotate shifts every six months. There is also the possibility that the shift will change in the middle of a rotation to meet the needs of the agency. Our Security Control Specialists work in an environment where the work load requires individuals to focus his/her attention and prioritize events and then shift that focus and attention to re-prioritize activities on a constant basis while monitoring / responding to radio traffic and telephone calls. The work can be extremely fast-paced for hours on end with constant movement and activities in the jail. To be successful in this position you must be skilled at multitasking.
