Security Officer

Education

               Required:             High school diploma or GED.

               Preferred:             Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management or related field.

Experience

               Required:             Six months in a customer service-related role with strong communication and de-escalation skills. 

               Preferred:             One year of experience as a Police Officer, Public Safety Officer, Corrections, School Security, Hospital Security, Public Act 330 Security Police Officer, Corporate Security or Military Experience. Experience in environment of comparable size and complexity.

Certifications and Licenses

               Required:             Valid State of Michigan driver's license at time of hire, AND insurable under Trinity Health liability insurance guidelines with an acceptable driving record.

               Preferred:             Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) certifiable OR certified. First Aid - (FIRSTAID/CPR Certification).  Certification as a Security Police Officer under Public Act 330.  

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

               Minimum:            No criminal record.  Good moral character as determined by a favorable comprehensive background investigation.  Physical, mental and emotional ability to execute duties.  Able to pass psychological/medical evaluation prior to job offer.  Ability to learn and operate all communication equipment.  Ability to maintain satisfactory work performance and attendance record.  Ability to complete training in Chemical Agent Sprays, handcuffs/restraints, Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT), Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), and other defensive tactics.  Excellent communication and customer service skills.  Able to thrive in fast paced environment, prioritize projects and work well with customers and complaints.  Ability to problem solve and develop constructive/creative alternatives to resolve issues and concerns.

Credentials/Training:

             Minimum:

Computer Competency

Familiarity with standard desktop and windows-based computer system, including email, e-learning, intranet and computer navigation.  Ability to use other software required to perform essential functions.

Physical/Mental

Minimum:            Ability to hear speech, distinguish sounds, and speak.  Ability to balance, bend, climb, crawl, crouch, kneel, reach, sitting, squat, stand, twist, walk, push wheelchairs.  Near vision, far vision.  Ability to carry or lift up to 30 lbs routinely, and on occasion up to 50 pounds (20% of time).  Ability to push or pull over 50 pounds occasionally (20% of time).  Manual dexterity.  Ability to stand and walk (80 to 95% of time). Wear a two-way radio (100% of time).  Perform detailed tasks with interruptions (50% of time).  Ability to go hands on with agitated or violent individuals using trained physical techniques.

Essential Functionss:

Intervenes with disorderly individuals, using non-violent crisis intervention before physical intervention takes place.Assists nursing staff with clinical ordered patient restraints and management of combative patients.Performs vehicle parking lot patrols; provides security escorts as assigned and follows procedures relating to parking assignment and institutional policy (06/106 & 06/107).Greets, directs and specifically assists customers, visitors, patients and colleagues of Trinity Health throughout the organization, including emergency room and patrolled areas of the facilities.Assists with way finding and guidance as needed to promote our mission philosophy. Escorts, patients, visitors, and colleagues to and from their vehicle when necessary.  Directs customers to appropriate areas of the hospital by physically walking to the area or engaging another officer to provide escort.  Assists with location and delivery of wheelchairs upon request.Fosters a positive image by promoting Trinity Health to patient customers by being knowledgeable about centers of excellence, new buildings, mission, accomplishments, policies/ procedures, services, leaders, community involvements, events.  Remains current with events happening within Trinity Health.Provides information and insight, based on observation and communication, with customers to staff as appropriate relating to security sensitive issues, awareness of suspicious individuals/activities.Accurately assesses and articulates incidents or events that require a security report.  Interviews individuals involved and takes photographs as necessary.Responds to panic/security alarms when alerted and provides necessary assistance.Coordinates work activities with co-workers to establish a positive team atmosphere and accomplish departmental objectives. Participates in continuous quality improvement in assigned area.Upon authorization by the Director and completion of chemical agent training, may carry chemical agent spray while performing uniform job functions.Interacts with law enforcement representatives of Local, County, State and Federal levels.
