Security Officer | Safety & Security | PRN | Variable
Overview PRN position, varied shifts The Security Officer patrols assigned areas on foot or in vehicle, actively searching for unauthorized and suspicious activity or safety/fire hazards providing immediate intervention. Intervenes and provides immediate assistance to staff for any security and safety related issues. Assists patients, family, and visitors needing direction or information. Responsibilities Patrols hospital and MOB interior floors, exterior parking lots and grounds. Conducts visual inspection of vehicles in all parking lots. Assure grounds are free from unauthorized persons. Assist Nursing Services with security problems as requested and as needed. Providing safety and security of patients designated as a Baker Act in the Emergency Department. Lock or unlock doors as required. Check and verify all doors remain locked after business hours to include exit doors between 2200 until 0500. Assist in facilitating the transfer of deceased patients from the morgue to the funeral home. Escort employees, visitors and patients to parking lots as requested. Assist motorist when necessary. Initiate a work order for any equipment or property that needs repair or immediate attention. Maintains shift report of activities, and completes all (SOR) Security Occurrence Reports by end of shift. Reads pass down log at beginning of each shift. Complete Incident Reports and SOR on all unusual incidents including: falls, thefts and visitor incidents. Observes Emergency Department waiting room entrance for unusual activity. Assists ER personnel as requested. Assist as needed with Rescue Helicopter take offs and landings. Provide information, directions or assistance to visitors, patients and employees. Utilize the security desktop computer, email program, and web based programs that provide hospital data. Maintain close communication with on campus deputy and request assistance when needed or call SJSO dispatch when necessary. Utilizes all communication equipment, radio, cell phone, pager, UHF base station and companion phone with efficiency. Must have a working knowledge of the hospital camera system and utilities management system software. Qualifications Education High School Diploma/GED Experience 1-year Military Police, Security or Law Enforcement. Skills and Abilities: Must have the ability to work with minimum supervision and in stressful situations Must be able to handle all situations with emotional stability Must be able to perform duties on any shift necessary to complete work assignment. Certificates/Licenses/Registration Must have good driving record. Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance required for MVR Background Check. Level 2 Background required upon hire. BLS, provided by American Heart Association (AHA), required within 30 days of hire. WELLE (Non-Abusive Psychological & Physical Intervention) training within 90 days of hire; annual re-certification required thereafter.
