Security Officer - Security - PART TIME DAYS 7AM-730PM FRI-MON Vineland

This position is responsible for creating a safe and secure environment for employees, patients, visitors, and property of the Inspira Health Network. Security officers will provide proactive and reactive security patrols and response to incidents.  Inspira security officers will provide excellent customer service and will be able to competently work with people who are under stress and/or in need of medical assistance. Works with the Environment of Care committee to ensure a multi-disciplinary approach to safety, security, workplace violence and emergency management.

 Greets visitors while ascertaining their needs and directs them accordingly:

Provides excellent customer service at all posts and when rounding in the hospital setting. Speaks in a calm manner. Consistently treats all visitors in a pleasant manner.

Answers telephone courteously:

Answers phone within 3 rings Identifies self/department, asking “Can I help you?”

Maintains visibility to patients, staff and visitors in the proper uniform to identify himself/herself as Inspira Health Network Security:

Wears proper uniform; maintains a neat and clean appearance. Displays Inspira Health Network photo identification badge as well as Security Officer Shield.

Coordinates any request with other Security Officer or Courier as necessary:

Responds to calls for assistance as quickly as possible. Coordinates with other Security Officers on duty. Maintains constant radio contact with other Security officers on duty. Coordinates building, floor and parking lot rounds with other Security Officers on duty. Notifies other Security Officers on duty when rounds are complete, timely and legibly.

Maintains daily log with all events and supporting information from the shift:

Assures that the next shift is informed of events that occurred on the preceding shift. Passes on all logged information. Uses the Security Incident Report form to document any incidents that occurred on the shift. Assures that all information is reported accurately, timely and legibly.

Reports all incidents to the proper chain of command (Security Officer-Director of Security-Nursing Supervisor, if applicable):

Assesses incidents and clearly relays related information. Assures all documentation is reported correctly, clearly and concisely.

Takes appropriate action in reporting unusual conditions or malfunctioning of hospital systems:

Uses work order to advise of problem, unless it is an emergency. Copies work order with daily log for Director’s follow-up. Notifies the Nursing Supervisor of serious conditions or malfunctions. Takes other immediate action on shift, as necessary.

Quickly notifies funeral directors of deaths (as a courtesy, regardless of immediate body release):

Accurately notes all information/notification times of Funeral Director (FD) on daily logs. Assures death checklist is completely filled out by nursing personnel. Assures that any patient valuables are noted on the death checklist. Reviews checklist on each death before accepting (including signatures, next of kin, attending physician, and pronouncement of release completed by attending physician). Assures death certificate is retained with body. Passes death information to Officers of the next shift. Notifies FD with complete information immediately. Assures all information is properly documented in Medical Examiner (ME) cases. Collaborates with Nursing Supervisor on transport and/or ME procedures.

Takes responsibility for patients’ valuables:

Completes appropriate securable envelope with signature/description. Secures the envelope in the safe or in another secured location. Assures valuables receipt is placed with patient chart.

Takes appropriate action when law enforcement assistance is required:

Immediately notifies Nursing Supervisor (Administrator) and contacts security manager of actions taken: Assures report is completed in a timely manner with accurate, thorough documentation: Accurately documents on daily log, the sequence of incident.

Performs Courier runs when necessary:

Coordinates with Courier on duty if possible.

Accurately documents floor “rounds”:

Maintains constant patrolling unless preparing reports or providing relief. Accurately receives signatures from other Security Officer(s), if applicable. Assures outside law enforcement agency personnel are appraised of all rounds, incidents and needs for assistance when applicable.

Accepts responsibility for other duties needed during the shift:

Clears vehicles from unauthorized parking areas (lobby entrance, ER) noting action on daily log. Provides access for outside contractors noting arrears accessed and secures on daily logs (company name).

Assures outside contractors are visibly identified with company logo, uniform or hospital provided ID badge:

Provides needed barricades or other safety measures on grounds during contractor/hospital project.

Works well with staff in all departments, providing services as needed:

Interacts with patients and visitors in a supportive manner.

Relieves switchboard operators in a timely manner (11pm-7am only).

Conducts visual fire extinguisher checks each month during regular rounds:

Checks tags for monthly signature verification. Generates work orders for expired/unchecked fire extinguishers and notes these on the daily log.

Is flexible in response to unexpected changes in work assignments and shift changes.

Adheres to Inspira Health Network and Security Department policies and procedures:

Performs annual review of policy and procedures manuals.

Identifies problems and develops recommendations for resolution to Security Manager.

Performs any additional duties as directed by the immediate supervisor:

Works day, evening or night shift, as assigned.              

Education & Experience 

High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. 6 months of security experience. (3) years’ experience in law enforcement, private security or investigations preferred.

Certification/Licensure:

Valid driver's license required and adherence to Inspira's Fleet policy. Basic Security Officer Certification (IAHSS) required within 1 year of hire. Inspira Health approved de-escalation and common language training required within 100 days of hire.  American Heart Association BLS required within 100 days.

Knowledge & Skills:

Ability to effectively interact with hospital employees, visitors, patients, contractors, and volunteers.  Ability to effectively manage the responsibilities and duties of the position and the department.
