Summary About the Position: This position is with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Security Office (SO) Security Programs Branch. This position is being filled as a Security Specialist (Information) DJ-0080-03 (GS-11 - GS12) located in Champaign, IL. Responsibilities Serves as the Security Manager to implement comprehensive protection program. Plans and coordinates security related training, administration, and inspections. Develops, implements, and monitors policies, instructions, procedures, control systems, and methods for personnel access controls and physical storage and control. Inspects, analyzes, and evaluates security systems and assess the adequacy of inventory and management control systems. Plans staffing needs, assigns duties, requests recruitment assistance, interviews and selects candidates. Ensures safety rules, regulations and standard operating procedures are utilized. Monitors the way sensitive material is handled and used; recommends appropriate corrective action where security requirements are not being observed. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: providing guidance on information classification, document marking and safeguarding, personnel access controls and physical storage; ensuring personnel have the appropriate security clearances; and recommending appropriate corrective action where security requirements are not being observed. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service DJ-02 (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Security Management or Criminal Justice. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and Management Information Security Personnel Security Physical Security Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09). All qualification requirements, including time after competitive appointment, must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
