Seed Production Intern

You will: 

Support Agronomists and Field Technicians in day to day activities related to hybrid seed corn productionParticipate in accurate and timely crop scouting and data collection of emergence and vegetative growth stages, silk and pollen shed notes, stand counts, and Insect Program scouting thresholds. Perform activities related to planting, GPS field mapping, scouting, weed and insect management, rouging, detasseling, safety, training, and reporting at the siteLead a research project to study a potential production improvement or new agronomic practice/technology. Present findings to the local leadership team.Develop field scouting reports on assigned Ipad and work with Agronomist to solve issues with growers.Read soil moisture probes and interpret data. Make irrigation recommendations to Agronomist.Perform other duties as required to meet field operation or plant needs

Qualifications

What you must have: 

A High School Diploma or equivalent Enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Agronomy, Horticulture, Precision Ag, Ag Business, or other related discipline  Must be a current student continuing education upon completion of the internship term (Internship term is May 2025 through August 2025)Fluent in English Passion for agriculture and working outdoors Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions including seasonally hot or cold temperatures and in inclement weather 

What you might also contribute to the team: 

Prefer a student with a Sophomore or Junior class standing   Prior experience relating to agronomy is preferred but not required  Prior experience relating to Seed Corn Production is preferred but not required  Excellent communication skills to work well with co-workers on plant tasks and in field production management with farmer growers   Proficiency in performing tasks that adheres to the quality and safety expected from Syngenta  Ensure that all corporate safety guidelines are followed  Excellent writing and math skills  An independent individual who is self-motivating and needs little supervision  The ability to communicate information (written and spoken) is highly desired in this position Trusted - Will need to make good sound judgment calls regarding seed quality management that will be for the best interest of the company  Knowledge of both Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word Innovative - To always look to implement new procedures or technologies to improve work efficiencies   Detail/Accuracy Oriented - All procedures and policies must be understood and followed. Data entry into data management systems must be accurate due to decisions being made by other departments based on the information given  Ability to perform basic math functions
