Seed Production Specialist

This position will work with the Breeding team and the seed production supervisor to conduct nursery and increase operations in corn and soy.  The Associate ensures the work location functions efficiently by performing a variety of duties across a range of procedures when preparing and conducting experiments to produce quality seed/data.

What You'll Do:

Works with station employees to set up experiments, works with field contacts to achieve high quality plots, prepare and sort seed packets into planting order, map locations, take field notes and upload data, monitor in-field issues, and exercise independent judgment.Works with team members to maintain collaborative contacts between Seed Production Supervisor, Station Ops Lead and station crop leads to ensure research goals are met to expectations.Be an integral part of planting and harvest crews for corn and soy. Operation of various pieces of research equipment; including but not limited to tractors, planters, sprayers and combines.Seed production responsibilities, ensure purity, uniformity and quantity targets are met.Help with seed lab activities including seed treating, shipping, sorting, inventory, and supervision of hourly employees.Will be an integrated member of the Princeton, participate in committees and audits, administer center-wide safety programs and comply with all station and company policies.Will be requested to help maintain inventory of nursery equipment and supplies necessary for the completion of breeding goals by the station project.Ability to work extended hours at peak times of the year. Travel during planting and harvest will be required with limited overnight stays throughout the year.Identify improvements in procedures and protocols within allotted time constraints.Identify appropriate and efficient uses of PR Nursery Research Project resources.Ability to work effectively in variety of software programs.Make daily decisions associated with conducting experiments that reflect Company Policies.Decide priority of work activities to meet assigned shipping deadlines, balancing all assigned projects.

What Skills You Need:

High school diploma with 5 years experience, Bachelor’s degree in agriculture preferred. Demonstrated excellent communication/personal interaction skills to foster teamwork, enhance a positive work environment, and effectively develop strong internal and external working relationships with a diverse group of peopleStrong experience and skills with computers and data management. Strong aptitude to operate and maintain planting and harvest equipment including electronics, GPS systems and data collection systems.Demonstrated skills in leadership, operational safety, supervision and time management.Must be capable of lifting up to 50 poundsMust be capable of working in varying ergonomic and environmental conditions for extended periods of time.
