Job Summary: The Select Basketball Program Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing the YMCA’s Select Basketball program. This role involves coordinating all aspects of the program, including player recruitment, team training, scheduling, coaching, and communication with parents and participants. The coordinator ensures that the program runs smoothly, maintains high standards of player development, and fosters a positive, inclusive environment for youth athletes. Responsibilities + Program Management: + Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Select Basketball program, ensuring all practices, games, and events run on schedule. + Coordinate team placements, ensuring teams are balanced based on skill levels and experience. + Develop and implement a training curriculum that emphasizes skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship. + Coaching and Staff Support: + Recruit, hire, and train coaches for the Select Basketball teams. + Provide ongoing support and feedback to coaches to ensure consistent quality of coaching and adherence to YMCA policies. + Schedule regular coach meetings to discuss strategies, expectations, and player development. + Player Recruitment and Registration: + Manage the recruitment process for selecting athletes, including tryouts, evaluations, and final roster decisions. + Ensure accurate and up-to-date player registration records. + Communicate program details to coaches, parents and players, including practice schedules, game schedules, and tournament opportunities. + Scheduling and Event Coordination: + Organize and coordinate all practices, games, and events for the Select Basketball teams. + Schedule team travel for tournaments, including transportation and accommodation (if necessary). + Coordinate with other leagues and organizations to schedule interleague games and tournaments. + Communication: + Serve as the main point of contact for parents, players, and coaches within the Select Basketball program. + Send out regular communications regarding schedules, program updates, and important announcements. + Address any issues or concerns raised by parents, players, or coaches in a timely and professional manner. + Program Development: + Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of the program and suggest improvements for player development, coaching, and overall experience. + Maintain and update program policies, ensuring they align with YMCA standards and best practices. + Develop strategies to increase program participation and visibility within the community. + Budget and Financial Management: + Assist in developing and managing the budget for the Select Basketball program, including overseeing registration fees, equipment purchases, and other program-related expenses. + Ensure that all financial transactions related to the program are recorded accurately and in compliance with YMCA financial policies. + Safety and Risk Management: + Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by adhering to YMCA’s safety and risk management guidelines. + Enforce policies regarding appropriate behavior on and off the court, ensuring a positive, respectful environment for all players and coaches. + Respond to any incidents or emergencies that arise during practices, games, or events, following the YMCA's emergency protocols. + Community Engagement: + Foster positive relationships with local schools, community organizations, and other youth sports programs. + Promote the YMCA’s Select Basketball program through various channels, including social media, community events, and outreach initiatives. Qualifications + 21 or older + Previous experience in coaching or program coordination, preferably in youth sports. + Strong organizational and time-management skills. + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with children, parents, and staff. + Knowledge of basketball fundamentals and coaching strategies. + Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment. + CPR and First Aid certification* *Ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire. Preferred Qualifications: + Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field (preferred). Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered. WORK ENVIRONMENT + Work schedule includes evenings and weekends, particularly during basketball seasons. + Office work, as well as on-site presence at practices, games, and events. POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK This is a temporary full-time position. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. TRAVEL Travel is primarily local, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
