Job Summary

The Senior Accountant – Plant Accounting is responsible for reviewing and analyzing records supporting the Company’s fixed asset (plant) balances.  The person in this position will also provide guidance to the plant accountants in the department as well as to project managers throughout the company related to appropriately managing the entire lifecycle of a capital project.

 

This position is hybrid, 3 days a week in the Denver, PA office.

Duties and Responsibilities

Monthly Close and Related Processes:

Complete the Plant Accounting close processes for complex Plant Accounting items. Review standard/non-complex journal entries and reconciliations prepared by Plant Accountants.  Prepare reconciliations for Plant Accounting. Perform and/or review SOX controls associated with Plant Accounting processes. Complete Plant Accounting reporting including management reporting and regulatory reporting.

 

Serve as Plant Accounting Expert:

Provide guidance on all aspects of the Plant Accounting lifecycle. Serve as a resource for understanding and responding to unusual asset transactions. Respond to ad hoc analysis requests. 

 

Process / System Improvement and Project Management: 

Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to design, build, improve, automate, and test IT processes related to Plant Accounting. Develop and monitor metrics for evaluating key plant functions (unitization backlog, outstanding CWIP, unapplied CIACs, etc.). Lead projects designed to improve plant-related processes, coordinating with project managers and accounting teams.

 

Perform other duties as requested. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Understanding of accounting principles associated with plant accounting, including regulatory accounting principles. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written, with those at various levels within the organization. Experience with ERP system such as SAP preferred.  Ability to independently research and resolve issues, presenting potential solutions to management. Strong Excel skills. Strong attention to detail skills. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field. Minimum 5 - 7 years’ experience.  Utility plant accounting experience is a preferred.
