Senior Accountant - Finance - Full Time

Position Summary: 

Under the direction of the Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant is responsible for coordinating, supervising, and reviewing the activities of the Accountant I and Accountant II personnel.  The Senior Accountant will have a critical role in implementing the internal controls of the Finance Department to ensure processes are being performed in accordance with the Organization’s Policies and Procedures.

Education, License & Cert: 

A Baccalaureate Degree or degree from an accredited college or university; OR An Associate Degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of ten years of work experience; OR A satisfactory combination of education, training, and experience.

Experience: 

Three to five years of complex account reconciliation experience and the ability to work independently is required. Experience in the healthcare or a not for profit industry is preferred as well as working knowledge of healthcare operations, month end closing process, and cost allocations. Familiarity with PeopleSoft/Oracle and EPIC is a plus and a strong working knowledge of Excel and Word is required.  Report writer experience is helpful.

Essential Functions: 

1. Prepares complex account reconciliation and financial statement analyses and reviews less complex account reconciliations prepared by the Accountant 1 and Accountant II.  Also prepares complex journal entries and reviews less complex journal entries prepared by the Accountant I and Accountant II. 

2. Reviews the Entity Financial Report Packages for accuracy and completeness and monitor and analyze complex departmental and budgetary variances and completes report for management.  

3. Works closely with financial and operational leadership to proactively assess and manage financial risk while helping drive consistent and effective policies and procedures around all aspects of accounting.  

4. Provides coaching and backup assistance to other Accounting function team members, as needed 

5. Assists Accounting Manager and Corporate Financial Controller with Standard Operating Procedures & Policy compliance work as well as support the Corporate Financial Controller in coordinating the preparation of annual audit schedules, year‐end account reconciliations and interface with auditors.

6. Works with departments to ensure purchase coding is accurately set up and that expenses are coded correctly. Also review automated subsidiary system interface to general ledger as required by frequency.  

7. Supports Corporate Financial Controller with requests for approval to changes of Epic revenue charge, payment, and adjustment codes; works with departments to ensure codes are accurately set up. 

8. Ensures department participates in the year‐end count of physical inventory, extensions, and records necessary adjustments and ensures the accuracy of records. 

9. Support the Financial Operations, Budgeting, and Decision Support Departments within Finance with accounting schedules and support, as needed.

10. Adheres to Service Level Agreement (SLA) with Entity Financial Leadership.

Other Duties: 

1. Coordinates the activities of the department with all other functions and is the department representative at all department manager or middle management meetings and attends administrative staff meetings.

2. Participates in committees and projects as assigned.

3. Performs other duties as assigned

4. Must assist to develop and manage a systematic and integrated accounting and reporting system. Must be able to develop a sound and comprehensive documented internal control system. Must have excellent oral and written communications abilities to develop and supervise personnel.  Must possess personality traits to effectively communicate with administration, department managers, auditors, etc.

5. Must possess technical and professional skills of accounting, the ability to develop financial and other operational systems to properly control activities, and must be familiar with data processing capabilities, reimbursement, cost accounting and budget procedures. Must possess analytical and problem‐solving skills, Required to organize and prioritize workload and complete projects by established deadlines.
