The Platform Computing Systems (PCS) Team is seeking a Senior Engineering Project Manager (EPM) who will be responsible for leading Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) projects. The EPM role is responsible for facilitating the engineering activities and supporting the IMA Systems team with planning, initiation, and execution of Systems level engineering activities to ensure the integration of software and hardware align to customer requirements and expectations.
The EPM is highly desired to have knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM) as well as the avionics development processes (ARP 4754, DO-178, DO-160, DO-330 etc.). The preferred candidates should demonstrate the ability to plan and manage projects while controlling scope, budget, schedule, and quality. Further, GE Aerospace is embracing Lean manufacturing concepts and methodologies to drive organization success. Practices such as daily management of projects is vital to ensure roadblocks are resolved expeditiously and consistent progress to planned activities. To that end, the EPM will be expected to employ daily meetings with their project teams to ensure Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost (SQDC) are incorporated into all activities.
The EPM is required to develop a broad and deep level of expertise that relates to the PCS Computing Products.
The EPM must demonstrate the ability to identify and understand critical path and dependencies as related to the project and how it strategically fits into the overall Technology Roadmap and Strategic Business initiatives.
The EPM role works closely with the Lead EPM, Technical Leads, and Program Manager in interacting with the customer (Boeing Commercial) and bringing Common Core Systems (CCS) products successfully to Entry Into Service – a critical engineering objective for GE’s Avionics business. This role will report directly to the PCS Engineering Leader, who is amazing! Essential Responsibilities:
The EPM will provide business and technical direction for the development of IMA products. The EPM will establish and communicate business goals to team members and key stakeholders. This role requires strong analytical, problem solving, written and oral communication skills. Expectations are that the EPM must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, willing to learn, and able to work collaboratively with others in a process-centric environment. The right candidate will also keep the big picture in the forefront while ensuring all project team members are working towards the same common objective.
In addition, the EPM is expected to:
Lead an Integrated Project Team (IPT) as it develops IMA Products.
Work closely with Systems and Technical Leads to collaborate on KPI management as well as monitor and control execution of key activities.
Perform project execution including managing planning, schedule, cost, technical, risk, and quality. Manage critical path and downstream tasks.
Communicate effectively with the customer and bring their feedback to the team.
Manage and convey the status and performance of the project to key internal and external stakeholders including program, business, and technical management.
Demonstrate domain expertise in aviation computing products.
Proactively initiate engagement across the project team. Serve as a technical / financial leader for projects across global cross-functional teams (customers, program management, technical experts, software, systems, hardware, safety, and applications engineering teams) assuring project success from initiation to closure.
Maintain expert level of product/process knowledge and application.
Previous experience managing fully remote team members to ensure timelines and deliverables are met.
Travel to project sites to interface with project team members and customers.
Document aspects of the project details and maintain a constant communication flow with support groups, management, and executives to ensure all stakeholders stay current.
Resolve customer issues or difficulties in a manner that is consistent with the company mission, values, and financial objectives.
Maintain professional business relationships within internal support organizations and target accounts.
Provide status and metrics of ongoing projects.
Identify customer needs and sales opportunities to help future growth.
Demonstrated experience leading multiple, large-scale cross-functional projects. (For example, 35+ team members, managed $XXM+ budgets, tracking multiple major milestones, and 1+ plus duration).
Comfortable working with ambiguity and proven ability to address scope gaps.
Qualifications / Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a technical or engineering field.
Minimum of 5 years engineering project management experience. (Preference for 10+ years of EPM experience or 15+ of technical/IT project management experience).
Desired Characteristics:
Project estimation and bidding experience.
Experience with Deltek Open Plan and other financial management tools.
Project management certification (PMP or similar).
Familiarity with aspects of aviation and avionics systems engineering including standard like SAE ARP-4754A, DO-178B/C, DO-297, DO-330 and DO-254.
Familiarity with GE Aerospace Avionics internal engineering and business standards.
Familiarity with military products and end customers.
