Senior Advisor, Student Engagement (P4)

Summary

Save the Children Action Network (“SCAN”) – a 501(c)(4) organization – is the political advocacy arm of Save the Children, building bipartisan support to make sure every child has a strong start in life. We’re doing this by advocating for high-quality early learning, ending child hunger in the U.S. and educating and protecting kids around the word.

SCAN works to create systemic change, one way we do this is by elevating diverse youth voices to drive meaningful policy change and support Save the Children’s programs benefiting children in the U.S. and around the world. The Student Engagement Senior Advisor will lead the design and execution of strategies to engage high school and college students in SCAN’s political advocacy campaigns, that support Save the Children’s mission. In this role, you will be instrumental in growing and enhancing the SCUS and SCAN school club programs, while directly managing both the Student Alumni program and the National Youth Champions program.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Program Development and Management (55%)

Oversee SCAN’s National Student Ambassador Program: Provide strategic leadership for growth and engagement, design monitoring and evaluation frameworks, and manage all related platforms, programming, communication, and initiatives to ensure continuous improvement and impact. Lead the Student Alumni Program: Manage SCAN’s newly launched Student Alumni Program, offering graduating students a platform to remain involved in SCAN’s advocacy, fundraising, and engagement efforts. This program also supports alumni in building professional skills as they transition into their careers. Manage the National Youth Champions Program: Lead SCAN’s National Youth Champions Program, which launched in 2024 and is entering its second year. Recruit and mentor 10-15 youth from the Student Ambassador Program to serve as National Youth Champions. These youth will commit to a two-year term, focusing on collective impact, governance, and youth mentorship. Develop Comprehensive Student Training: Collaborate with SCAN teams and programs to create and implement a cohesive, user-friendly, and impactful training approach. Ensure all webinars, in-person trainings, and national Advocacy Summits are well-organized and contribute to the strategic goals of SCAN.

Strategy and Planning (25%)

Lead Strategic Planning and Goal Setting: Oversee the planning, goal setting, reporting, and budgeting processes for the Student Engagement team to align with SCAN's overall objectives and priorities. Design Evaluation and Monitoring Frameworks: Develop evaluation plans, tools, and data collection methods to assess the impact of the Student Engagement Program. Ensure both quantitative and qualitative metrics are used to monitor program quality and effectiveness. Foster Cross-Team Collaboration: Prioritize collaboration across SCAN teams and SCUS departments, including Business & Technology Solutions, Media, Communications & Fundraising, and Philanthropy and Partnerships, to ensure integration and alignment of student engagement efforts. Collaborate on National Campaign Development: Work closely with the National Campaigns team and Volunteer Leadership and Training teams to create student-specific resources for SCAN’s priority federal advocacy campaigns.

Operational Excellence (20%)

Supervise and Develop Team Members: Train, develop, coach, lead, and supervise staff (two Lead Associates), clearly communicating organization, division and department priorities, and how their work contributes to our mission, ensuring that the working environment continually fosters diversity, inclusion, and belonging – supporting SCAN’s values. Enhance Program Visibility: Support the creation and implementation of communication and media strategies to elevate program visibility through external communications, presentations, and related activities. Oversee Departmental Resources and Platforms: Take ownership of managing departmental training, resources, and data within key platforms such as TechChange, CollaborNation, Articulate 360, and EveryAction, ensuring seamless integration and efficient use of these tools to support program objectives.

 

Required Qualifications

Minimum of a Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 7 years of relevant experience Professional experience with grassroots organizing and/or advocacy campaigns with student or youth groups Experience working with diverse groups of volunteers both in online and offline settings Professional experience working on local, state or federal advocacy or political campaigns Professional proficiency in MS Office suite Professional proficiency in spoken and written English Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining an environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging

Professional experience working on electoral campaigns

 

Compensation 

Save the Children Action Network pays the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location: 

Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $108,800 – $121,600 base salary  Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $98,600 – $110,200 base salary  Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $88,400 – $98,800 base salary 

The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record.  

 Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here). Employee may be eligible for an incentive program.
