The Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security (EH&S) Department is responsible for the overall safety and security of all employees, visitors, and contractors. The EH&S department holds various compliance requirements including compliance with federal, state, and local permit requirements relating to environmental statutes, worker safety/health, and security relating to both physical and cybersecurity. The department is led by the Director, EH&S, who has three direct reports: the Specialist, site Nurse (contracted position), and Security Manager. The EH&S department has a wide range of recordkeeping requirements, including safety/health incident and accident reporting, chemical/physical hazard registries, and security risk and business continuity planning and maintenance programs. The Position The Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security (EH&S) Analyst is responsible for the implementation of environment, health, and safety programs for the Madison facility. This position works with all departments to ensure safety is incorporated in the daily work plans and schedules. The Specialist also ensures compliance with all regulatory reporting requirements. Relationships Reports to: Senior Director, Environmental, Health & Safety Essential Functions + Assist in the execution of an effective EH&S program that meets all regulatory requirements + Draft necessary SOPs covering EH&S related activities + Provide training on EH&S procedures and policies + Assist in ensuring audit program is implemented and followed + Conduct and update risk assessments with assistance from EH&S Manager + Partner with EH&S Manager to coordinate the SDS program + Conduct annual agency reporting with assistance from EH&S Manager + Lead the Safety Committee members through scheduled monthly meetings and help conduct monthly site audits + Lead the Safety Committee in developing metrics for measuring audit response time and establishing timelines for implementing various EH&S programs + Implement Continuous Improvement opportunities as identified + Ensure contractor EH&S compliance and work with various departments + Conduct incident reporting with workers comp and annual reporting to OSHA + Other duties as assigned Physical Requirements Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reading of written documents and use of computer monitor screen, reaching with hands and arms, talking, writing, listening. Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, carrying, grasping. Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds. Must comply with EHS responsibilities for the position. Working conditions will be heating ventilation and air condition controlled. Working in a lab environment will require working with skin irritants, lung irritants, electrical equipment, sharp instruments, toxic materials, and hazardous waste. Safety procedures will be followed to minimize exposure, including clean room gowning. Qualifications + Education: + High School/GED, required + B.S./B.A. in EH&S, Biotechnology, or related field, preferred + 5 - 8 years’ experience in related field + Relevant Professional certifications (ASP, CSP, CIH) a plus + Experience: + OSHA reporting requirements + Familiarity of risk assessments + Understanding of GMP regulations, documentation, and requirements + Hazardous waste management experience + Understanding interaction procedures with various regulatory agencies + Familiar with ISO 45001 Standard implementation and program maintenance + Must be able to read and understand English-written job instructions and safety + Technical Requirements: + Full understanding of regulatory requirements, including OSHA and EPA compliance standards, that include regulations related to storm water/wastewater, RCRA, CAA, CWA, air emissions reporting, and other EH&S-related federal, state, and local laws that apply to the business + Experience in managing risk assessments, risk management, ergonomics, personnel protective equipment, industrial safety, injury and incident investigation, reporting, industrial hygiene, auditing, and training + Knowledge and ability to implement EHS related process and program improvements + Experience in engaging others through committees, champions, projects, etc. to achieve targeted results + Behavioral Requirements: + Ability to see and hear, read, and write clear English + Requires adaptability, analyzing, assessing, calculating, decision making, dependability, good judgment, reading, memorizing, social skills, speaking, stress control, writing + Ability to communicate effectively and follow/retain detailed written and verbal instruction in an accurate, timely, safe, and professional manner with supervisor, group members, and other departments as necessary, in a professional and accurate manner + Ability to manage time effectively to complete assignments in expected time frame and independently seek out additional work when tasks are completed ahead of time + Ability to cooperate with coworkers within an organized team environment or work alone + Detail oriented with ability to work effectively under high pressure with multiple deadlines + Strong ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment + Positive attitude and ability to work with others + Ability to process a large volume of work + Ability to effectively carry out and implement change + Ability to put aside personal opinions and focus on business needs, department needs, or group needs We commit to an inclusive recruitment process and equality of opportunity for all our job applicants.
