Underwrite and assess credit quality of residential mortgage loans which also include secondary financing products and programs. Responsibilities relate to making credit decisions on residential mortgage loan applications generating from direct customers or correspondent lenders. Other responsibilities include managing pipelines rectifying post-closing condition and supporting underwriting team. Have current knowledge of and adhere to various agency requirements (FNMA, FHA and VA), as well as other applicable banking laws and regulations including, but not limited to; Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering, RESPA, S.A.F.E Act, HMDA, Fair Lending Practices, Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA)/Reg B, Appraisal Requirements, Truth-in-Lending (Reg Z), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), FACT Act, Fair Housing Act, Community Reinvestment Act, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, Servicemembers Civil Relief Act & Military Lending (SCRA & MLA), Insider Trading (Reg O), Flood, OFAC and ATR/QM.
Review and analyze entire loan file towards a lending mandate and to underwrite mortgage applications within current lending policy. Efficiently manage pipeline of loans, including follow up to ensure timely decisions. Identify area of risk to the business and assist the underwriting manager in investigating/analyzing the issues and preparing reports.Ensure rate locks and purchase dates are metRecommend loans for denial, counteroffers and exceptions - exhaust all efforts to find alternativesMonitor compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements.Review and decision downpayment assistance programs in association with the first mortgage.Maintain acceptable level of quality and data entry integrity within LOS for all loan files.Have skill set to review complex loan transactions such as self-employed and first-time homebuyers' programs with secondary financing grants and loans. Deal with escalated/complex queries, taking ownership of a problem and identifying a solution/way forward.Provide training and assistance to processing, closing and fellow underwriters Manage special loan programs and processes. (Construction, Condo/Coop, Government loans, first time homebuyer and state agency loan programs) Support the underwriting manager in implementing required changes to working practices/procedures.Seeks to enhance proficiency through ongoing training sessions provided by Investors and vendors.Contributor in companywide projects. Lead by example by demonstrating a positive ‘can-do’ attitude in the workplace
Key skills/experience qualifications for the role:
High school diploma/GED required, bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.4+ years of experience in residential mortgage loan underwriting.Knowledge of FNMA, FHA and VA underwriting guidelines.Up to date Knowledge of the regulatory requirementsTactful communication skillsStrong analytical and organizational skills setWork independently as well as within a team environment Ability to manage conflicting and demanding clients and priorities,In depth understand of loan origination system. Encompass preferredStrong PC skills to include Microsoft Word and Excel.The estimated salary range for this position is $36.00 USD per hour to $40.00 USD per hour. Actual salary may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive compensation
