About the Role: Grade Level (for internal use): 11 The Role: We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our Sovereign and International Public Finance team based in our Toronto office. The successful candidate will assume the role of primary analyst on a diverse credit list that will include various Canadian public sector entities and sovereigns. You will meet regularly with issuers and investors on analytical matters, assist in resolving client needs, contribute to media requests in conjunction with senior members of the team, and take the lead on external meetings related to your credit list. The successful candidate will also publish timely and insightful credit reports and, as well as thought leadership pieces. You will also be an important contributor to our internal committee discussions, and a strong representative for the organization when interacting with government officials, investors, intermediaries, and the media. As an analyst, you will have a very important role participating in various asset classes discussions and applying our methodologies. You will also have ongoing access to the most senior analysts and sector leads inside and outside Canada. Your analytical work will contribute to bringing ongoing transparency and comparability to the financial markets and helps investors and others measure and manage credit risk. What’s in it for you: As an analyst, you are working as part of the Americas Governments group within S&P Global Ratings. With ongoing interaction with senior leadership, you will maintain direct analytical responsibility for a portfolio of rated entities. These responsibilities include ongoing surveillance and rating recommendations, maintaining analytical contact with rated entities’ senior management and presenting analytical opinions to internal and external constituencies. We train our analysts to one day become our future analytical leaders in the sectors they focused on and become active spokespersons in the markets we cover. The Team/The Business: The Sovereign and International Public Finance team has a strong collegial environment and friendly atmosphere; you would be regularly assigned to work with other analysts on the different sectors the team covers, and you will be exposed to various methodologies and standard operating procedures that are relevant to deliver analytical excellence to the market. A lot of the work is completed independently, but every rating involves a team of analysts, so teamwork is very important. Your Skills: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in economics or business (or CFA designation). An S&P Global employee at this level would typically have a minimum of 3 years’ experience. Strong analytical skills, with a deep understanding of financial statements, and accounting concepts, as well as economic concepts. An interest or experience in sectors including governments at different levels, educational services, social housing, health care, multilateral organizations, among others. Ability to quickly absorb, analyse, and act upon information, while demonstrating strong proficiency with figures and the ability to maintain accuracy and be detail-oriented while complying with deadlines. Solid communication skills, verbal and written. Fluency in French (both written and verbal) is highly desirable. Highly organized with the ability to multitask and work under time pressure. Willingness to travel, both domestically and internationally. Right to Work Requirements: This role is limited to persons with indefinite right to work in Canada.
