Senior Analyst – Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure
About the Role: Grade Level (for internal use): 11 About the Role: The Team: This role is in the US and preferably would be on the West Coast, but can be a virtual team member in-country. Join our Data, AI, and Analytics research practice as a Senior Analyst and become a key player in a team of 5 experts dedicated to generating market-leading insights on the data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, analytics, data management and governance, and data warehouse technologies that are transforming enterprises with pervasive intelligence. Your specific insights will focus on machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies and the interdependencies they have with the various fields of infrastructure, data and analytics. This research practice is part of a larger ecosystem of expert industry analyst teams (‘451 Research’) that has been leading the market for over twenty years with forward-looking and data-driven analysis of the technology landscape. Together, we cover the full spectrum of enterprise technologies and employ various research techniques including expert market insights, end-user surveys, forecast modeling, revenue tracking, in-depth interviews, mergers and acquisition tracking, and face-to-face analyst briefings. This Senior Analyst role will influence a range of stakeholders across the technology ecosystem, including the technology and service providers, the investment community, and deploying enterprises grappling with generative AI. Generative AI is transforming all aspects of the technology stack, impacting far beyond organizational decisions on building, buying, and deploying technology. As an enabling layer, it relies heavily on robust data and infrastructure. This role will therefore focus on advancing our research in the infrastructure and data areas of the AI stack. Specifically, the role will focus on analyzing the critical architectural shifts required for developing, hosting and deploying predictive and generative AI capabilities. The analyst will take an AI-first foundational approach for industry changes associated with edge AI, AI inference and AI accelerators/GPU chips. This role will also be responsible for using these perspectives to contextualize related skills, economic trends, supply chain dynamics, and global political and regulatory impacts. Developing and curating a unique program of research: Create and maintain your own program of market-leading written research analyzing: AI and GenAI technologies with a particular emphasis on the underlying infrastructure and platform layers supporting the generative AI explosion. LLM methods, practices, and enterprise applications. The data architectures and technologies emerging to support AI workloads, staying up to date with leading providers. Synthesize quantitative and qualitative data to create a regular cadence of vendor profile, market trend and M&A focused reports providing provocative and insightful analysis - typically 40 short-form and a few long-form reports a year. Take independent ownership of building and curating your universe and prioritized watchlist of vendors - using that to inform your data products, report production and direct engagement with companies as you develop your subject matter expertise. Collaborate with other S&P analyst experts in Edge and Data Center infrastructure to socialize the requirements needed for AI. Ownership of market-leading data products: Take ownership on developing annual or semi-annual survey instruments, including writing questions, collaborating with other analysts, and articulating applicable audience segments. Contribute also to our other key data products like our market sizing and market mapping tools. Top-tier client engagement and commercial support: Advise clients - virtually and face-to-face - on actionable insights relevant to their needs and interests on AI and GenAI. Actively engage with your commercial colleagues through sales support initiatives with prospective clients. Actively engage with our consulting managers in developing and delivering on consulting projects including the creation and presentation of go-to-market and other similar assets for clients as needed. Compensation/Benefits Information: (This section is only applicable to US candidates) S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $98,000 to $195,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications. What We’re Looking For: Basic Required Qualifications: Experience: 7-10 years as an industry analyst with expertise in AI strategies and/or enterprise software markets. Passion for technology: Demonstrated enthusiasm for the latest technological advancements and innovations, especially around ML/AI. Client Engagement: Highly external facing analyst who enjoys building relationships with clients and prospects, enthusiastic about travel (approx. 10% of your time, or c. 15 business trips a year) for conferences, sales support, and client engagements, with significant public speaking experience at conferences, on webinars, and in different client meetings. Skills: Excellent writing, analytical, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with strong proficiency in analyzing research data. Program management: Experience in managing an individual program of research with the ability to methodically balance and effectively manage your time across written research, data product, client engagement and sales support responsibilities. Collaboration: The ability to work efficiently and effectively with your peers in the analyst, data, consulting, and commercial teams.
