EPCORs Water Services (EWS) group has a two (2) full-time permanent opportunities for experienced Senior Analyst, Data to join the Customer Operations team working out of the EPCOR Tower located in downtown Edmonton, AB.

In the Senior Data Analyst role you are responsible for driving the adoption of analytical projects and leveraging data for strategic decision-making across EPCOR Water Services (EWS). You will leverage your extensive technical analysis skills to oversee cross-departmental projects, collaborating with business users and leading efforts to solve complex business problems. This involves identifying and sourcing relevant data, developing robust data pipelines, performing data wrangling and designing and implementing dimensional models to support warehousing data needs.
What you’d be responsible for
You are accountable to the Manager, Data Architecture and will have the following key accountabilities (but are not limited to these):
Providing:Insights and expertise to shape the EWS Data landscape, contributing to the development of the Data Architecture plan and strategy. Influencing strategic decisions, optimizing data pipelines and enhancing data management practices to ensure a robust and scalable data environment`Strategic thinking around data collection, integration, storage, sharing and governance to drive data infrastructure excellence. Developing and implementing best practices to ensure data integrity, accessibility and compliance.Technical guidance to peers, reviewing code and performing QA/QC measures to ensure best practices are followed. Ensuring data products are of high quality and meet performance standards.Offering advanced technical expertise in creating, maintaining and optimizing Data Engineering Workflows. Fine-tuning queries, improving ETL / ELT process performance and enhancing overall system efficiencies to support business intelligence and analytics.Designing and architecting complex data systems, creating scalable, efficient and robust data pipelines that handle large volumes of data. Ensuring the architecture supports current and future data needs of the organization.Developing and maintaining data models to support business intelligence and analytics. This involves designing star and snowflake schemas to organize data into fact and dimension tables for efficient querying and analysis.Implementing strategies for capturing Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD) during dimensional modeling to track historical data changes. This ensures that the data warehouse accurately reflects changes over time, supporting comprehensive trend analysis and reporting.Collaborating with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams to understand business problems and align data solutions with overall business objectives. Facilitating effective communication to ensure data initiatives meet organizational goals.Stemming from user requirements transforming data into impactful visual narratives, ensuring accessibility and adherence to standards. Utilizing data visualization to drive informed decision-making processes across the organization.Applying exceptional problem-solving and critical thinking skills to tackle complex system issues and data anomalies. Proposing effective solutions to maintain robust and reliable data systems.Collaborating with various functional areas within Water Services to gather, document and address requirements. Leading the implementation of Business Intelligence and Data Analytics tools to support EWS’s strategic initiatives and driving the transformation towards becoming a future-ready utility.
What’s required to be successful
Qualifications, experience and behaviours you possess are:
Completed a 4-year degree from a recognized educational institute related to any of the following:Data AnalyticsData ScienceStatisticsComputer ScienceManagement Information SystemsBusiness Technology ManagementComputer Engineering/System Technologyor other relevant areas.4+ years’ experience that includes:Working in a technical capacity with business intelligence and data analytics applications and techniques, including creating dashboards, exploratory data analysis and managing ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.Leading and contributing to projects as a data analyst, business analyst, or data scientist within the field of Business Intelligence and Data Analytics.Hands-on experience in SQL scripting and querying relational databases. Designing and implementing data warehousing solutions, including data modeling (3NF and dimensional data models) and Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD) data capture.Performing exploratory data analysis, including data cleaning and manipulation of various types of data to uncover insights.Implementing solutions in an agile, fast-paced and constantly evolving environment.Communicating data analysis results effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Proven knowledge and skills in the following:Data warehousing concepts and experience in implementing data models, OLAP Cubes.Fundamentals of data analytics, data management, and relational database concepts.Strong aptitude for problem solving, critical thinking and data analysis.
Additionally these would be considered valuable assets to have:
Experience:In the public sector, utility sector, or other municipal sectors.With modern cloud based data architecture.With computer programming languages for data analysis, such as Python and Spark.Spatial data and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications or other geospatial data manipulation tools.With agile software development using Azure DevOps to manage backlogs, work boards, system artifacts, test suits, code repositories and deploy changes via CI/CD pipelines.Certification:Microsoft Certified Azure Data Engineer. Databricks Certified Data Engineer. IBM Certified Data Engineer.Knowledge with/of:Distributed computing and ETL processing with Spark.Power BI or other data visualization tools.Dimensional data modelling.

Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and is based on a combination of factors as outlined in the CA that may be found online.Hours of work: Monday to Friday (40 hours per week)
