Our Mission Information Technology Business Unit is seeking a Senior Applications Development Meteorologist.  In this role, you will work on a mix of client programs and new business growth opportunities.  The general theme of projects you will be involved in is mission systems development for the United States operational weather enterprise.

Core Position Requirements:

Ability to analyze science, technical, programmatic, and human factors challenges/requirements to build solutions that effectively deliver mission capabilities.Technical familiarity with current NWS systems and processes supporting weather prediction.Mentoring, Peer Leadership, and Team Building.Verbal and written communication skills including development and delivery of executive briefings.Strong hands-on programming and administration skills with Python, PostgreSQL, and GIS systems..

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Engineering or related science discipline with at least 30 years of relevant experience in National Weather Service Operations and Techniques Development.Specific experience with administration, development, and use of the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS).Specific experience with exploitation of observations from NOAA operational meteorological satellites (i.e., GOES-R and JPSS), radar systems, radiosondes, surface mesonets and other observational capability.Extensive understanding of NWS mission, organization and evolution.

Desired Skills:

Proficiency with Python and Linux based scientific programming tools and environments.Experience with rapid development in a modern AWS cloud environment.Familiarity and understanding of concepts and technical basis for probabilistic forecasting.

Remote options available for this role and considered on a case-by-case basis.

Experience and/or Education in lieu of these qualifications will be reviewed for applicability to meet these requirements.

Basic Compensation:

$150,400.00 - $225,600.00

The offered rate will be based on contract affordability and the selected candidate's working location, knowledge, skills, and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
