**Applied Sciences Group (ASG)** is an interdisciplinary team of scientists and developers focused on incubating next-generation technologies across Microsoft Devices.
As a **_Senior Applied Scientist_** in the Applied Sciences Group you will be working to transfer models from training teams to run efficiently on device, using low power NPUs (Neural Processing Units). This will include both low level optimizations (CUDA, HVX or other relevant low-level technologies) and higher-level CI/CD pipelines to support the release of the models. This opportunity will allow you to help ship high impact models to a huge userbase.
In this role, you will have tangible effects on everything from the training of models to the mechanisms of release, and everything in between! Initial focus will be on language models, though the candidate should be enthusiastic about working on cutting-edge software more generally as the industry is moving forward very quickly! Candidates should demonstrate a breadth of experience in software engineering and have a scientific methodology in finding solutions to challenging questions.

**Responsibilities**
+ Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features.
+ Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight.
+ Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable.
+ Contributes to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation.
+ Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and works with others to solve issues in a timely manner.
+ Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

**Qualifications**
**Required/Minimum Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Physics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics predictive analytics, research)
+ OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Physics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
+ OR Doctorate in Statistics, Physics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
+ OR equivalent experience.
**Additional or Preferred Qualifications**
+ Master's Degree in Statistics, Physics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical OR Computer Engineering, OR related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
+ OR Doctorate in Statistics, Physics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical OR Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ 1+ year(s) experience developing and deploying live production systems, as part of a product team.
+ 1+ year(s) experience developing and deploying products or systems at multiple points in the product cycle from ideation to shipping
Applied Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
