Your OpportunityWe strive for design excellence and total integration among all design disciplines. Your role as Senior Architectural Designer is to lead an integrated design team through the project design process working closely with the Project Manager or Project Architect under the direction of the Principal in Charge. You will be the key design advocate to achieve the highest design quality possible for the projects, accountable to regional design leaders. You will be the design voice during all aspects of the project process from validation/pre-design through construction administration and close-out. Depending on the size of the projects, you may be asked to take on more than one project at a time.
Your Key Responsibilities Be the face representing Stantec’s design excellence. Inspires creativity, critical thought, and design excellence both internally and externally. Deliver great design work that is rooted in sustainable, functional, and efficient solutions. Excellent collaborator and team player with clients, entire project teams and contractors. Conceptualize a building design from both a functional and aesthetic perspective in concert with a client’s requirements, budget and program. Develop designs through sketches, physical models, electronic models, diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats to express the design intent and communicate to project team, client, and building user groups. Document design process in a written and graphic format that clearly identifies design concept narrative and direction. Knowledge of BIM technologies in development of three-dimensional models of buildings and their components to achieve design approval. Promote and follow the office’s Design Framework. Organize and participate in design critiques and constructability reviews. Present the design(s) to stakeholders during early project phases. Develop building design in accordance with cost parameters. Evaluate and select building systems and materials. Coordinate building systems to ensure compatibility with the design intent. Analyze site incorporating geotechnical, hydrological, environmental, social, economic and contextual conditions. Participate in development of the program and other pre-design efforts. Ensure that design intent is maintained through documentation and construction. Project related travel across the US is required and will vary depending on project locations and project requirements. Your Capabilities and Credentials To engage in creative and critical thinking. To produce design at a level that would be perceived externally as excellent. To hand sketch and communicate concepts and ideas to others effectively. To participate in project team setting. To lead one or more teams through the development of design concept. To check work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage team to meet project budget and schedule. To interpret sketches, drawings, codes, building program and other similar material. To present abstract ideas to the client and client representatives. To apply accessibility codes, applicable building codes, and life-safety codes to a wide variety of project scopes and complexity. To produce and deliver design and documentation in highly collaborative BIM strategy. General knowledge of building construction systems, constructability, materials, and industry associated standards. Understanding of the relationship between drawings and specifications. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Newforma. Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or related field Licensed architect preferred Minimum of 15 years of experience, preferably on small to large public Transit, Public Work, and Municipal/Utility projects. Additional Information Salary Range(s): Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s): Location Description: Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CO, HI, MD and IL Min Pay Range: $108,000 Max Pay Range: $162,000 Note: The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
