United States Steel is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Manufacturing Leader to join our team in Birmingham, AL. In this role, you will oversee all manufacturing operations, ensuring that production processes run smoothly and efficiently. You will be responsible for establishing and developing a new manufacturing plant, creating new processes, and forming and maintaining partnerships with equipment suppliers to leverage external expertise. Additionally, you will build a new team comprising of industrial engineers and manufacturing operations professionals. This position requires strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of manufacturing processes, and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments. You will drive operational excellence and innovation through your experience in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and world-class manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Start up a new factory (green field), develop and create new process flows.
+ Work concurrently with the design team to ensure the inputs for DFMA requirements are embedded in the design process.
+ Establish manufacturing strategy, processes, tools and systems from pilot to scale.
+ Oversee daily manufacturing operations, ensuring that production schedules are met and quality standards are maintained.
+ Develop and implement on-going process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
+ Hire, Manage and mentor a team of manufacturing professionals, providing guidance and support to help them achieve their goals.
+ Collaborate with other departments, including engineering, quality assurance, and supply chain, to ensure that production processes run smoothly.
+ Monitor production metrics and analyze data to identify areas for improvement.
+ Ensure that all safety protocols are followed and that the manufacturing environment is safe for all employees.
+ Develop and manage the manufacturing budget, ensuring that all expenses are within budgetary guidelines.
+ Stay up-to-date with the latest manufacturing technologies, trends, and implement new technologies as appropriate.
+ Coordinate project responsibilities, negotiate timelines and deliverables, and lead regular review meetings with internal leadership and external customers, as needed. .
Job Requirements:
+ Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, or a related field.
+ Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, ideally some years in a plant leader/plant manager capacity.
+ Strong understanding of agile manufacturing processes and best practices.
+ Excellent leadership and team management skills.
+ Ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions.
+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
+ Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and stakeholders.
+ Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and world-class manufacturing is required.
+ Project management experience is required.
+ Experience in concurrent engineering.
+ Ability to work with ambiguity and drive decision-making.
+ Ability to lead and inspire a team through the exciting and unchartered territory of green field
Preferred Skills:
+ Proven track record of successfully managing manufacturing operations and achieving production goals.
+ Experience with process improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
+ Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically.
+ Ability to work and lead in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
+ High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
