Job Description

SUMMARY: 

Reporting to the Dean of the College for Education and Engaged Learning (CEEL), the Senior Assistant Dean for Educational and Community Engagement manages all internal and external facing centers, collectively known as the CEEL Center Consortium (CCC):

The Senior Assistant Dean serves as a catalyst for the CCC that serve as a centralized hub, acting as a "one-stop-shop," for the Montclair community and external stakeholders to access the comprehensive services and resources provided by the CCC.

The Senior Assistant Dean leads the coordination, expansion, revenue generation, and success of the CCC and its partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. This position is responsible for identifying and developing creative solutions for the CCC to achieve its goals and leading cross-center teams to synergize programs and services that are critical to the success of CEEL. The Senior Assistant Dean is expected to develop a proactive and robust approach to developing and executing an entrepreneurial strategy that reflects the mission of the University and CEEL, expands the communities it serves, and attracts new sources of funding. As such, this role provides operational and organizational management to optimize the function and outcomes/deliverables of the CCC. The Senior Assistant Dean is an innovative and entrepreneurial thinker who can drive and manage new opportunities and revenue streams for the CCC and ensure CEEL as “the go to” education partner in New Jersey and beyond.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversight and Leadership of the CCC

Provide oversight, in consultation with the Dean, for all administrative, business, financial, and reporting functions of the CCC. 

Promote organizational and interdisciplinary collaboration among centers.

Build a strategic partnership with the Office of Community Engagement.

Collaborate across academic departments and centers to elevate the CEEL student experience.

Assist center directors to meet unit-specific goals and objectives for equity and inclusion.

Conduct market research and analysis to identify emerging trends, needs, and innovative opportunities and consult centers on economic trends for growth and development.

Generate innovative ideas through design thinking, ideation sessions with partners/stakeholders.

Build detailed financial models and go-to-market strategies for new ventures.

Apply research to identify the necessary data to evaluate centers and improve evidence-based decision making.

Assemble and lead cross-center and stakeholder teams to execute on synergistic opportunities.

Foster an entrepreneurial mindset and culture of innovation across the organization.

Develop and manage a system of metrics and optimize performance of centers for continuous improvement.

Build and develop effective community engagement metrics, tools, and analytics with a focus on compositional diversity, climate, and culturally and linguistically appropriate initiatives.

Operational and Organizational Development

Collaborate on CEEL initiatives designed to recruit, retain, support, and ensure the success and advancement of staff populations including strategic hiring and onboarding, promotions, career advancement and retention of faculty, and formulate plans for enhancement of community engagement.

Represent CEEL in matters pertaining to community engagement initiatives.

Cultivate and strengthen relationships with various community and professional organizations to establish partnerships, strategic alliances, and potential opportunities.

Implement programmatic policy and guidance for continuous improvement of the diversity, equity and inclusion at CEEL.

Promote humanistic values of understanding, empathy, perspective-taking, professionalism, ethics, and inclusivity, while also providing the opportunities and tools for the necessary and challenging conversations essential to growing as a community.                                                                          

Advise key leadership groups for CEEL to inspire, mentor, and educate various stakeholders about diversity and inclusion.

Provide input and leadership for strategic planning, decision-making, and goal and policy setting that are necessary to improve excellence and operational efficiency, with a focus on enhancing diversity and inclusion for students, trainees, faculty, and staff.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.

A minimum of seven years in a field related to leadership, organizational or systems management, engineering, design, entrepreneurship, or similar fields.

Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness in leadership and possess the ability to work with a varied group of educators and stakeholders.

Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to lead and work on teams.

Professional experience in management, strategy planning, administration, budget and organization building.

Entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for turning ideas into reality and driving organizational growth

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills

Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management abilities

Ability to think creatively, challenge assumptions, and take calculated risks

Knowledge of lean startup methodologies, design thinking, and agile development practices

Experience developing and executing strategies to achieve short and long-term goals.

PREFERRED:

Doctoral degree from accredited institution or equivalent years of directly related experience in leadership, organizational or systems management, engineering, design, entrepreneurship, or similar fields.

Experience working in/with higher education, P-12 education, or related educational agency.
