Working in partnership with our service partners, Guys and St. Thomas Hospitals, Kings College Hospital and Princess Royal University Hospital we aim to set the standard for the future of pathology.Job overview Synnovis Support Services are looking to recruit a Senior Assistant Technical Officer (SATO) to work within a very busy Central Specimen Reception (CSR) at Kings College Hospital, Denmark Hill site. CSR is a pre-analytical department supporting both the emergency pathway within the hospital and routine work generated by the hospitals inpatient and outpatient departments, community services and referred work from NHS Trusts and private hospitals.

Main duties of the job As a Senior Assistant Technical Officer (SATO) your main duties includes: receiving and sorting patient samples, logging patient data on to the Laboratory Information Management System, entering patient results and sending out patient samples to other locations, troubleshooting and training against our competency framework across a broad set of pre-analytical processes. Concentration, flexibility, accuracy, using own initiative and attention to detail are essential to the processes performed as part of this role. Experience in data entry and pre analytical processing of laboratory specimens would be an advantage but is not essential. Full training will be provided. Working with minimal supervision, under pressure and be able to complete tasks efficiently to a high quality standard is a must. Candidates must be flexible with time as shift working is a fundamental requirement for this job role. Post holders will work 37.5 hours per week, on average, across a shift rotation that includes: days, evenings, nights, weekends and public holiday shifts. Out-of-hours shift rotations will provide extra payments on top of your basic salary:Your basic hourly rate is increased to an enhanced rate when working night shifts, weekends and public holidays In the event of being required to work additional hours (e.g. being called in as Standby cover) then overtime payments are made. CSR provides an additional monthly incentive payment for all those assigned to the out-of-hours rotation.

Exercise judgement when dealing with enquiries from other pathology departments and users of the Blood Sciences Laboratory Services.TechnicalPerform under the guidance of qualified Biomedical Scientists automated sample processing, which may include maintenance, loading and off-loading samples from automated analysers or Track system. Participate in the provision of a comprehensive and appropriate clinical technical diagnostic service to users through the performance of a range of work procedures requiring prolonged concentration and attention to detail and application of judgement on the suitability of samples for processing and the technical validity of results Correctly enter patient demographics and test codes in to the departments Laboratory information system (LIMS). Prioritise urgent samples, in-patients, outpatients, GPs and external sources for processing in accordance with agreed turn-around-times. Receive and label samples with laboratory barcode numbers as a unique identifier. Ensure quality of work by performing pre and post analytical process checks. Perform manual centrifugation of samples as required. Maintain laboratory equipment in accordance with SOPs as required by the area of work or at the direction of line manager. Manually aliquot samples for tests performed in Pathology Laboratories outside the Blood Sciences Laboratory Ensure fridge/freezer temperatures are recorded on a daily basis. Prepare reagents in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) Load and change reagents on the Blood Sciences Laboratory analysers as required maintaining sample throughout. Load and off load sample trays as required throughout the laboratory. Dispose of samples from trays in a safe manner. Scan request forms so that an image can be viewed on several PCs in the laboratory. Accept delivery of samples, reagents and consumables Prepare and pack samples for dispatch to other laboratories and input into the laboratory Computer System the returned results.
