Job Description:

Airbus Ventures is looking for applicants with 5-7 years of work experience in Venture Capital. A Senior Associate must be results-oriented with an ability to work independently and proactively. Successful Applicants are expected to demonstrate strong EQ, rapid and accurate research capabilities, and thorough company diligence and writing skills, in addition to having a strong grasp of venture capital and the start-up ecosystem. Critically, a Senior Associate must possess great attention to detail and be able to write investment memos that make a balanced case for and against a potential investment. Maturity, discretion and trustworthiness are hallmarks of success in the venture capital industry, and Airbus Ventures expects highest standards for ethical compliance and sound judgment. 


 

Primary Responsibilities: 

Raise Capital from Limited Partners (LPs):

Introduce LPs within a personal network.

Develop a basic understanding of LPs globally, across different LP profiles  (i.e., Corporate / Government / Sovereign Wealth Fund / Fund Of Funds / Family Office / Pension Funds / Hedge Funds / Private Equity / Other) and use knowledge to support Partners in preparing relevant analyses and materials

Conduct due diligence on new investment opportunities: 

Actively support all aspects of the due diligence process and workflows 

Conduct in-depth financial analyses including the creation of company operating models and evaluation of fundamental business economics 

Prepare company valuation materials

Perform market and competitive research 

Prepare investment memos and other discussion materials 

Convey understanding of macro trends, and conduct customer/founder references 

Prepare DCF analysis on prospective portfolio companies 

Identify new investment opportunities and themes: 

Source new investment opportunities through direct outreach and existing relationships

Perform market research to identify investment trends, sectors, and themes 

Assess competitive landscapes and other market-mapping exercises

Support active portfolio companies: 

Support occasional, short term project work for portfolio companies 

Help support portfolio review

Other management responsibilities supporting the investment team and fund operations: 

Internal metrics benchmarking and data analysis

Craft and publish compelling content on best practices in company functions, industries/verticals, and in specific venture categories 

Financial modeling as needed 

Other projects as needed 

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:  

Education: Undergraduate degree in Finance or related field; Graduate degree in technology or MBA preferred

Experience: 5+ years of experience working in venture capital industry or venture banking, ideally in the technology sector

Thesis Building:

Can support analysis of portfolio construction strategy

Can make intelligent predictions about industry dynamics

Can make intelligent predictions about how other VCs (later, earlier and same stage) are thinking

Can make intelligent predictions where industries will go and what business models will emerge
 

Deal Sourcing

Able to give a general overview of all publicly known companies, aware of some private companies fundraising, and among investors approached for a company ‘s fundraising

Able to argue convincingly and obtain allocation in competitive deals due to the Fund’s brand reputation

Able to build a working relationships with founders
 

Deal Analysis

Can source  information on competing companies (some private + public)

Can identify people who may know about non-public information about the inner workings and politics behind a specific vertical and country

Can identify people who may know about non-public information about founders, their previous companies/projects, and how they interact with the ecosystem

Has some idea of what some of the broad opportunities may be in an industry

Can identify people who may know about quantitative benchmarks of key KPIs from competing players

Can identify people who may know about 2-3 key levers and historically difficult blockers within the space
 

Deal Process

Can execute most of the entire deal process (contracts, negotiations, etc.)

Able to work within a team around the entire process

Has second-hand knowledge of navigate complex negotiations/ workarounds for legal/negotiating situations

Has second-hand knowledge of key vendors (lawyers, tax advisors, etc.)
 

Technical Deal Skills

Can be a part of an experienced team on all aspects of technical analysis (including financial modelling, cohort/unit analysis, etc.)

Can be a part of an experienced team on writing investment memos

Can be a part of an experienced team on dealing with necessary legal/regulatory matters
 

Ecosystem Management

Has a positive name within the relevant start-up ecosystem

Knowledge of some ecosystem stakeholders

Seen as a source of knowledge through various online and offline channels (Media, Events, Blogging) by representing AV’s brand and voice
 

Portfolio Support

Able to suggest some introductions for portfolio founders (Recruitment, Business Development, Advisory)

Part of the founder’s support network during routine situations of need

Able to help run a process to bring in follow-on investments
 

People Leadership

Able to work collaboratively across all levels and serve as a trusted resource for more junior colleagues

Demonstrates self-awareness and responsiveness to feedback from all levels

Able to be a part of a process to source, recruit, and close hires at seniority levels at current position
 

Internal Operations

Has knowledge of processes and tech in other VC funds

Can be trained to develop these processes and then execute them independently

Able to work within a team to contribute on building/scaling a fund on multiple geographies/sectors

Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages): Excellent verbal and written communication in English, competency in other major languages a plus 
 

Technical Systems Proficiency: Advanced modeling skills in Excel; advanced applied experience in Google workspace; advanced desktop research tools
 

Travel Required: 20-30% travel short-term travel based on business needs
