Job Schedule: 1st shift- 9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 14 days – totaling 80 hours worked – and have every other Friday off

Job Description:

Performs a variety of engineering work in the development, improvement, and testing utilized in the manufacture of image intensifier tubes (night vision). Must be prepared to learn extensively regarding the manufacture and testing of image intensifier tubes. The work will include the optimization of current processes targeting increased manufacturing yield and lower labor costs.  Emphasis will be in improving efficiency and quality by implementing manufacturing best practices, including improved technology and automation. Must be able to start and lead projects to their conclusion. Success in this role will be measured by the cost savings associated with improved processes and higher yields, and enhanced product performance.  The candidate will also apply engineering principles and troubleshooting skills to provide day-to-day technical support to active production lines.

Essential Functions:

Detailed Mechanical Design of tooling and fixturing for manufacturing automationReviews and identifies improvements for improved ergonomics, increased efficiency, and FOD reduction in existing process tooling and fixturesGenerates design documentation and technical data package (engineering drawings, specifications, etc.)Prepares materials for internal design reviewsPresents projects and performance to management teamsWorks with a cross functional team of Engineers and operators to identify and implement improvementsAssure product and process quality by monitoring finished product and process capabilities; establishing standards; and validating manufacturing processesMaintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulationsInterfaces with customers and suppliers as neededMaintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks. Production support includes but is not limited to test fixture and tooling designs, product trouble shooting, document and drawing updates, process control improvements, development of custom customer solutions, and product design improvementsMaintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that is cooperative and supportive of customers, co-workers and managersSecurity clearance required / ability to attain security clearance during employmentAbility to effectively establish rapport and develop effective relationshipsExperience using CAD software such as SolidWorks, NX etcUnderstanding of GD&T application and interpretationProficient in generating and interpreting engineering drawingsUnderstanding of physics, engineering mechanics, fatigue, and mechanics of materialsUnderstanding of thermodynamics and heat transfer as well as dynamics and vibrationUnderstanding of manufacturing methods and lean principlesAbility to obtain and maintain a security clearance within 1 year of start date

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

Master's DegreeExperience with Design for Automation in a manufacturing environmentFamiliarity with finite element analysis tools and methodsStrong technical writing and presentation skillsLean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma Green Belt certification a plus.
