About the division 
The Water Consultancy Division is the centre of excellence within Mott MacDonald for responding to water and wastewater challenges, providing support to colleagues across our global business, and offering fantastic opportunities to get involved in diverse and technically challenging work. Climate change, aging assets, and population growth place increasing pressure on our water and wastewater assets. Our highly successful water consultancy business is servicing ever-increasing demands from water sector clients to help deliver ambitious capital programmes. The work we do is at the forefront of ensuring safe water supplies for future generations and protecting our environment. With sustainability, social impacts, digitalisation, and carbon reduction in mind, our diverse and multi-disciplinary teams work together to provide a variety of services throughout the full project life-cycle, from advisory services and feasibility studies, through outline and detailed design, to construction support and site supervision. 

 

Overview of role

Mott MacDonald is a market leader in the UK water sector, being a key supplier to major water companies and delivering a wide variety of engineering and advisory projects in support to the challenges faced by the sector. Our Water Consultancy Division has ambitious growth plans in line with AMP8 investment needs and we are proud of our strong reputation in the industry which is allowing us to expand our business.

 

Having been appointed to a large UK water consultancy framework in 2024, we are looking for a Team Leader to manage a multi-disciplinary team and lead the delivery of our clean water programme of works. Reporting to the Design Manager, this technical position requires someone keen to build on the good work done in establishing our position on this framework and work across our technical discipline leads to ensure projects within the clean water programme deliver on time, budget and drive technical excellence. This will be a client-facing role requiring close working relationships with the client leadership team as part of a collaborative delivery with the Client and other framework partners.

 

The role is expected to develop and evolve in line with the framework requirements and the candidates’ own skills and development areas. It offers an excellent opportunity to develop future-proofed services and solutions that embrace latest innovations in digital technology. It also offers the opportunity to develop the next generation of talent within our business.

Required skills and experience:

Chartered Status (CEng) with a recognised Professional InstitutionAn understanding of conventional and innovative water treatment technologies Track record of engineering technical leadershipSignificant experience in development and delivery of feasibility and outline design solutions within the UK water sectorAbility to support bids, fee proposals or offers of serviceAbility to check and review technical deliverables, calculations and reportsStrong communication skills with experience in effective collaboration across internal multi-disciplinary teams as well as Client teamsDesire to take a leading role with client engagement Ability to be located locally in client office in Newport with travel to sites in various locations across Wales

 

Desirable:

Track record in building teams and capability of junior staffUnderstanding of key water sector treatment and sustainability needsUnderstanding of drivers for clean water treatment investment in England and WalesExcellent technical report writing skills using concise English
