The position will be part of the General Counsel’s Office team.
**Senior Associate General Counsel Responsibilities**
+ Conduct legal research, writing, and analysis and provide legal advice to the Department on various complex and/or novel topics within the Department, including but not limited to, employment law, labor law, and affirmative action/equal opportunity matters.
+ Conduct internal employment investigations.
+ Handle external charges of discrimination.
+ Assist with the Department’s complex and/or high-profile data practices activities including privacy and security incident analysis.
+ Provide the Department with legal expertise to support the Department’s compliance with state and federal laws.
+ Monitor litigation involving the Department to coordinate litigation-related information and activities.
+ Develop and/or provide legal training on a variety of complex and changing area of topics to Department staff.
**Writing Sample**

This position is telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) eligible and is occasionally required to be on-site at the office. Staff are provided with the tools and equipment to be successful in a virtual work environment and may telework from anywhere in Minnesota or a neighboring state. Please note, the telework policy could change with notice based on business needs.
**Minimum Qualifications**

Three (3) years of legal experience as a practicing attorney. Judicial clerkship experience will count towards this criteria.
Applicants that meet the above minimum qualification will be further evaluated on the following:
Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school.
Licensed to practice law in Minnesota and current with continuing legal education requirements.
Performed legal research, writing, and analysis within the last three (3) years from the posting of this position.
Experience providing legal advice to senior leadership.
Employment law experience, including experience in one or more of the following areas:
+ Experience handling U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and/or the Minnesota Department of Human Rights (MDHR) matters;
+ Experience conducting internal employment investigations; and/or
+ Experience with employment litigation.
**Preferred Qualifications**
Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas of law related to the position:
+ Government grants/contracts/acquisitions
+ The Minnesota Government Data Practices Act and/or other privacy laws
+ Experience planning and delivering complex legal training to non-legal audiences
+ Experience working with or at the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office
+ Experience working with or at another State government agency
+ Knowledge and experience handling issues related to state and federal laws as they relate to state agency programs and services
