Join Gilead and help create possible, together. **Job Description** We have the following exciting opportunity for a Senior Associate General Counsel of our US Litigation and Global Investigations team. This role directly reports to our Vice President, Head of Global Litigation and Investigation. This lawyer will help direct, manage, and execute our complex, high-profile and sophisticated portfolio of matters toward optimum results while leveraging innovation, incorporating a keen understanding of Gilead and industry dynamics, and applying a sophisticated knowledge of the law and external dynamics. The role requires excellent judgment and experience demonstrating the ability to understand and adapt to highly complex and evolving legal issues and external dynamics in a way that furthers effective communication, advice, decision-making and execution in both independent and collaborative workstreams. This lawyer will also be expected to effectively manage outside counsel and other legal service providers in a manner that brings out the highest caliber of legal advice, work product, advocacy, and results with maximum efficiency. There will be opportunities to counsel and present to our business leaders including executive management across the company and serve as a representative in external forums. **Specific Responsibilities** + Help develop and manage, implement, and support execution of forward-looking litigation, investigation, and risk assessment strategies aligned with the company’s US and global objectives, industry dynamics, regulatory landscape, and other external dynamics. + Lead, inspire, role-model, manage, and contribute to our culture as a champion of excellence, inclusion, support, and collaboration within a high-functioning legal team. Continuous emphasis on mentorship and professional development to enhance the team’s capabilities and effectiveness. Contribute to the advancement and development of more junior lawyers. + Actively manage and support US and global internal and external litigation. This includes exercise of judgment in prioritization of matters and resources to respond to unexpected events alongside ongoing demands. + Serve as a trusted advisor on high-stakes litigation, investigation, and risk assessment matters that impact Gilead and the industry. + Maintain knowledge of relevant and developing case law, industry developments, regulatory issues, and external dynamics in furtherance of Gilead’s objectives. + Actively manage and support internal and external litigation teams. This includes case strategy in collaboration with internal stakeholders and outside counsel. In certain matters, this includes hands on supervision of day-to-day decision-making and tasks associated with case management and discovery including fact witness interviews, deposition preparation, expert witness work, and preparation for key hearings and trial. Review correspondence, arguments, memos, and briefs in support of litigation, investigations and other adversarial proceedings. Assist in the preparation of comprehensive internal and external updates of litigation, investigation, and other potential risks. + Contribute to the continuing development of best practices for effective management of litigation and investigations including process improvements and use of technology. + Effectively collaborate with other functions, leaders, and teams within Gilead. + Advance innovation and efficiency by leveraging legal technology and data analytics to improve efficiency in case management, drive cost containment, and deliver data-driven insights for better decision-making. **This role will be based in Foster City, CA. It is not remote.** **Specific Education and Experience Requirements** + Requires a Juris Doctorate and current admission in good standing before at least one State Bar. + A minimum of 14 years of relevant and extensive litigation and investigation experience, preferably pharmaceutical, medical device, or life sciences industry experience. + Extensive experience with complex and high-profile litigation, investigations and related life sciences issues. + Extensive experience as an effective leader and people manager. + Strong, broad, and complex litigation experience including class actions, coordinated litigations (e.g., MDL, state coordinated actions), mass tort product liability actions, anti-trust, commercial disputes, tax, appellate court proceedings, and securities actions. + Investigation experience that ranges from internal investigation, Qui Tam actions, and government and agency requests and actions. + Experience with internal and external investigations including anti-corruption and healthcare compliance. + Experience with the following is preferred: pharmaceutical regulations; compliance frameworks; industry standards; drug pricing (e.g., 340B, IRA, PDAB); international litigation and disputes in the life sciences areas; and therapeutic expertise (e.g., virology, oncology, and inflammation). The salary range for this position is: $302,005.00 - $390,830.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
