(Senior) Associate in the Corporate Investments team

ING Corporate Investments (“ING CI”) has an exciting opportunity for a pro-active and energetic (Senior) associate to join its team in Amsterdam!

The team

ING CI is responsible for all mezzanine debt, private equity, and sustainable investments within ING. We are active across a broad range of sectors and geographies, and we invest in various stages, from early stage to mature companies. We pride ourselves on our creative approach and our ability to deliver unique & tailored solutions to ING clients and prospects.

You will become part of a team with a strong ambition to grow: we aim to triple our Assets under Management in the coming years and transform ING CI into a true multi-asset portfolio manager, i.e. a multi-strategy value investor with an operating model that allows for controlled scaling of the business.  

The role

You will start your position at CI’s Portfolio Management & Value Creation (“PMVC”) team to get a solid understanding of CI’s investment portfolios and way of working. After 6-9 months your scope will be expanded to other parts of the CI organization. PMVC will play a pivotal role in the success of our growth ambition. The team's main responsibilities are twofold:

Value Creation: Our profit is driven as much by the origination of new investments as it is by value creation in the companies we invested in. The PMVC team takes a leading role in institutionalizing and standardizing the value creation processes for our portfolio companies. The aim is to leverage existing value creation initiatives across the entire portfolio and initiate new value creation initiatives.Portfolio Management & Risk Control: Provide the portfolio management function for all of CI’s investments and loans across its three origination business units: Equity Investments, Sustainable Investments & Mezzanine Debt as well as for ING Bank's equity positions, which include a.o. a Fintech portfolio, a strategic equity portfolio that is closely linked to ING Bank’s products and services, and a restructuring & recovery equity book. The portfolio management function will provide granular and periodic monitoring and reporting on all positions in the CI and Bank equity portfolios.

Responsibilities

In this position you will play a key role in the structuring, execution and monitoring of complex equity investments and mezzanine debt transactions. Your deliverables in the role will be:

Assessing investment opportunities including (i) evaluation of business models and financial statements, (ii) contributing to every step in the transaction journey from initial assessment to closing and future exit, (iii) coordinating internal and external parts of the deal processSupport with drafting and reviewing of investment proposalsReviewing due diligence and transaction (legal) documentationSupporting senior team members in transaction origination and executionFrom day one frequent contact with (prospective) clients, external advisors (e.g. corporate finance/debt advisors, lawyers, consultants) and co-investors as part of transaction execution and portfolio managementContribute to the value creation strategy and monitoring of portfolio companiesPreparing pitches and presentations, market analyses, financial analyses, internal reporting, shareholder meetings, etc.Collaborating with other ING teams, such as Corporate Finance, Sector teams, Restructuring and Legal department to create integrated client solutions

Furthermore, you have at least a number of the following:

An academic degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Science or equivalent3-5 years’ relevant experience in Private Equity, Venture Capital or Banking (e.g. M&A Project Finance, Acquisition Finance). We also welcome top-tier candidates with other backgrounds such as strategy consulting, business development in PE-backed company, M&A practice in law firm, restructuring advisory. If you have more then 5+ years of strong and relevant work experience in the previously mentioned area, we can consider you for a Senior position.Current residency in the Netherlands is preferred as well as the Dutch language skillsExcellent numerical and analytical skillsEagerness to constantly improve yourself. Drive, proactiveness and a genuine curiosity. You are proactive and have a problem-solving natureExceptional interpersonal skills, proven ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders in a corporate environmentSelf-confidence, energy and an ability to present ideas / information in a concise and organized way
