Senior Attorney - Chief Counsel & Head of Public Affairs (India)
Eaton Corporate is hiring a Senior Attorney - Chief Counsel & Head of Public Affairs (India) in Pune, India. **What you’ll do:** + Providing transactional and contract support to Eaton’s businesses and functions (HR, Sales, Supply Chain Management, etc.), including M&A activities in the region, review, drafting and negotiation of contracts, and statutory compliance. + Providing transactional support to Eaton’s M&A activities for mentioned countries. + Compliance risk management, including assessment of legal risks relating to operations and strategic decisions and development of effective compliance risk mitigation strategies, including development of processes and controls to eliminate or mitigate identified compliance risks. + Providing general advice and counsel to management, including recommendations and legal opinions pertaining to strategic and operational decision making. + Providing advice and counsel regarding good corporate governance and compliance with Eaton’s Code of Ethics in business decision making, working collaboratively with Eaton Global Ethics Office. + Effective management and resolution of litigation, labor and other disputes. + Representing Eaton in commercial and regulatory matters, including those involving governmental agencies. + In addition, the candidate will lead the India public affairs activities and work with global contract team and IP team in managing the COE teams locally. **Qualifications:** + Incumbent must have law degree from reputable law school and licensed to practice law in India preferably with a LL.B. and, preferably, LLM degree from an accredited U.S. or U.K. law school. + The incumbent must have 10 – 15 years experience at a major MNC law firm and in a public or private MNC company setting. Experience of having worked with a manufacturing organization. + Incumbent should have a “broad based generalist” legal background. **Skills:** + Familiarity with and experience in analyzing and responding to India laws and regulations, practice and government bureaus. Familiarity with other Western based legal systems would be ideal. + Understanding of corporate governance principles and best practices throughout India. + Highly developed sense of judgment and risk management skills, with proven ability to think globally. + The proven ability to successfully manage and drive development and execution of a legal strategy, including compliance. The ability to effectively work with non-legal business, engineering, technical and development teams will be crucial. + Strong reputation for integrity and ability to balance business interests with the need to exercise independent judgment and to raise (and escalate if necessary) potentially sensitive or contentious issues. + Demonstrated legal knowledge, leadership, sound strategic thinking, and ability to support executives, clients and other attorneys. Ability to think and act strategically. Good problem solver; able to analyze, evaluate and distill complex qualitative and quantitative data and issues into workable parts and report on the same. + A high-energy leadership style able to effect change within a diverse, rapidly-growing and decentralized organization. + Knowledge of, or an ability quickly to learn, legal issues associated with anti-corruption/FCPA and government relations. + Fluency in both written and spoken English.
