Role description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Automation QA Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will drive the quality assurance process by designing, developing, and maintaining automated testing frameworks and scripts. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, product managers, and other QA engineers, to ensure the delivery of high-quality software that meets and exceeds customer expectations.

As a senior member of the QA team, you will play a critical role in mentoring junior team members, implementing best practices, and continuously improving testing strategies to optimize the software development lifecycle.

This person would be joining our team in Toronto, so they should be comfortable working from 11am to 7pm CET.

Role accountabilities:

Lead the automation process setup within the team, establishing a strong foundation for ongoing test automation initiatives. Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable automated test frameworks, scripts, and tools. Collaborate with development and QA teams to identify test automation needs and set priorities. Create, execute, and maintain test plans, test cases, and test data to validate software functionality and performance. Perform integration, regression, and performance testing using automated tools. Demonstrate strong experience in API automation, including the design, execution, and maintenance of API test frameworks Ensure comprehensive test coverage across various platforms, including web and APIs (later mobile). Identify, document, and track defects using appropriate tools and work with developers to resolve them. Analyze test results, troubleshoot issues, and provide detailed feedback to the development team. Develop and enforce automation best practices, coding standards, and testing guidelines. Mentor and guide less experienced team members, providing support in automation tools, techniques, and processes. Collaborate effectively with the product team located in Toronto, ensuring 4 hours of overlap with Eastern Standard Time (EST) to align on priorities and deliverables. Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging tools, and technologies in automation testing. Actively participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 6+ years of experience in software quality assurance with a focus on automation testing. Expertise in creating and maintaining automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, WebdriverIO, Appium, etc.). Proficient in one of programming languages such as Typescript/JavaScript (as preferred), or C#/JAVA. Strong experience with API testing tools like Postman, RestAssured, or similar, with a focus on RESTful APIs and integration testing. Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab, Bamboo, Azure DevOps). Familiarity with version control systems (Git). Knowledge of test management tools like JIRA, TestRail, AzureDevOps Boards or similar. Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in a team-oriented environment. Self-starter with the ability to take initiative and work independently. Knowledge of containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). Ability to collaborate effectively with team members across multiple locations.
