What You Will Do 

As a Senior Avionics and Electronics Engineer based in our Winnersh office, you’ll play a crucial role in advancing Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) avionics and electronics. You’ll drive innovation across our projects in Unmanned Systems, Autonomy, and Communication & Networking solutions that span air, land, and maritime domains.  

Design complex wiring architectures and diagrams for unmanned systems, ensuring high standards for flight-critical wiring harnesses. 

Prototype and integrate UAS components such as payloads, sensors, communications, and navigation systems across multiple domains (air, land, and maritime). 

Lead lab management and testing by developing full-scale aircraft systems testbeds and experimental flight-testing protocols. 

Oversee component selection and procurement, managing stock and sourcing for all necessary avionics parts. 

Mentor junior engineers to ensure consistency, quality, and excellence in technical output. 

Develop technical documentation for manufacturing, integration, diagnostics, and repairs. 

Coordinate and execute inspections and acceptance testing of UAS subcomponents. 

Identify technical risks and suggest mitigations, ensuring system reliability and quality control. 

 

Skills and Experience 

You should have experience in: 

Complex unmanned systems architecture design for avionics, including flight-critical components. 

Airborne systems and UAV integration, with expertise in avionics, sensors, payloads, and control systems. 

UAS-specific communications and RF systems, with knowledge in integration and testing of payload packages. 

Flight-critical wiring harness design for unmanned aerial systems. 

Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, Iron Bird system testing, and FMEA (Failure Modes Effect Analysis). 

Technical proficiency in electronics CAD design software (e.g., Cadence suite, OrCAD) and technical drawing software. 

Project and procurement management to support sourcing, stock control, and system testing. 

Effective communication skills to work with customers, stakeholders, and team members in a collaborative environment. 

International travel readiness with a valid passport. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

While the following are not required, they are highly desirable: 

SC security clearance or eligibility to obtain it. 

Experience with UAV high-current power systems, flight sensor suite selection, and UAV propulsion systems. 

Field engineering experience in UAS deployment and hands-on work with remote testing. 

Proficiency in PCB design and electronics manufacturing for UAV and avionics systems. 

UAS flight testing expertise and knowledge of regulatory compliance for unmanned systems.
