Job Description SummaryAs the Senior Design Engineer for yaw bearings, you are responsible for the overall technical design, analysis, development, and implementation associated with large diameter yaw bearings in wind turbines. You will drive completion of highly detailed technical analysis that will result in safe, high-quality products and services that meet customer needs in a timely manner.
The technical expertise associated with this position includes rolling element bearings, sliding bearings, bolted joints, lubrication schemes, elastomeric seals, and spur gears. For these areas, you will drive drawing definition, static and fatigue life analysis, design processes, field issue resolution, and design tools development.
You will collaborate with the wider yaw system design team, cross-functional teams, and other designated experts. You will execute work with limited oversight/direction and also mentor less experienced engineering talent.

Essential Responsibilities
Provide technical expertise and analysis involved in all yaw bearing topics within the OneWind engineering team across all stages of the project lifecycle, spanning from conceptualization and design development to product launch and ongoing fleet operations. This includes loads analysis for bearing raceways, integral gears, bolted joints, seals, and lubrication schemesAccountable for overall technical fidelity of design and analysis in the yaw bearing which includes not only hardware but also drawings and documentation.Drive technical rigor for acceptance of design decisions, DFMEA, root cause analysis, design methods and tools.Ensure yaw bearing designs are compliant with industry standards, safety regulations, and customer requirements.Provide technical support and expertise to internal and external stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and regulatory authorities.Provide insight to Principal Engineer, Senior Principal Engineer, and Functional Manager to identify program or technology needs and support development to address those needs.Contribute to culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and professional growth with the broader yaw system and machine head teams.Qualification / Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college in Mechanical Engineering.Minimum of 5 years of experience in rolling element bearing design.Desired Characteristics
Prior relevant design experience in the use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools.Strong technical expertise in rolling element bearing analysis and design.Demonstrated capability with complex FEA modeling of bearings or similar dynamic components.Experience in complex issue resolution by participation in cross-functional teams and demonstrating analytical problem-solving skills utilizing tools such as failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), reliability engineering, RCA 8D process, etc.Knowledge of wind turbine, bearing, and bolted joint industry standards and regulations.Knowledge of spur gear design and analysis fundamentalsExperience with the use of Kissoft analytical tool packageExperience in project management by creating a clear, executable path from high level objectives, and demonstrating operational execution rigor by ensuring the objectives are realized.Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to individuals at all levels of the organization while ensuring transparency and gaining alignment with internal/external stakeholders.GE Vernova offers a great work environment, professional development, challenging careers, and competitive compensation.
