Senior Biologist
Jacobs is seeking a Senior Biologist to lead a wide range of services including: Permitting, impact analysis, agency coordination, field investigation, and licensing of transportation and water projects. You’ll apply and grow your technical and project management experience in leading environmental planning and compliance; natural resources; and developing and executing permitting strategies. Your leadership will be key to realizing safer infrastructure operations, healthier communities, and sustainable development. No longer a secondary concern to human progress, environmental impacts now guide social and economic decisions around all horizontal and vertical infrastructure development. Aligned with our Denver-area office, this is a hybrid position where you can work remotely and in the office. You will have the opportunity to contribute to and manage projects and to avoid and minimize environmental impacts while accelerating change through transportation and other infrastructure projects. As a Senior Biologist, you will lead the environmental planning and permitting process, including planning and executing technical surveys, engaging with regulatory agencies, permitting, mitigation planning, monitoring, and related efforts to support project development and meeting client objectives and project-specific internal financial goals. Your analytical and writing skills will be called upon as you lead development of quality client deliverables. Your project management or task leadership will include survey coordination and execution, permit strategy and impact avoidance and minimization, preparing or reviewing permit applications/reports/technical memos/environmental compliance documents, and client communication. You will provide motivation and direction to project teams while you in turn are partnered with experienced project delivery and technical leaders and mentors to facilitate your project and career priorities. * Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources, Wildlife Biology, Restoration Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, or other related technical degree * Experience in the infrastructure modernization industry * Project management/task lead experience with a work history of increasing responsibility for resource planning and/or environmental permitting in Colorado and other southwestern states * Specific training, knowledge, and experience necessary to develop, review, and coordinate project permit applications under Sections 401 and 404 of the Clean Water Act, Sections 7 and 10 of the Endangered Species Act, and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) * Familiarity with state and federal regulations; knowledge of environmental regulatory processes and permit compliance * Familiarity with regional vegetation and wildlife * Ability to charter and lead a project or task team with a focus on safety, client service, and internal delivery goals * Ability to foster relationships with large project teams, clients, client contractor staff, and third-party consultants * Ability to travel occasionally to a client office, and travel to project sites across Colorado and other western states Ideally, You’ll Also Have: * Master’s degree in Natural Resources, Wildlife Biology, Restoration Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, or other related technical degree * Experience with the environmental consulting industry managing transportation projects for the Colorado Department of Transportation (and other Departments of Transportation preferably located in the southwest), and the Central and Western Federal Lands Highway Divisions * Experience managing projects and experience with federal agencies like the Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, US Forest Service, US Army Corps of Engineers, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Reclamation, and other state and federal agencies * Experience working in Colorado and other western United States such as Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, and California * Experience with wetland delineation and ecological function assessment methods * Experience with sensitive species surveys Jacobs is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
