Job Description
Under general direction of the Assistant Commissioner, with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, will have management responsibility for overall planning, directing, and administering services for adult probation services
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing the daily operation of branches in Adult Operations.
- Provide direction to Branch Chiefs and Supervising Probation Officers regarding branch administration.
- Evaluate staff, structure, workflow, and resources and make adjustments as needed to maximize productivity.
- Establish priorities for branches and plan, implement, manage, and evaluate procedures to achieve those goals.
- Plan, direct, and evaluate branch operations to ensure compliance with applicable laws and Department policies.
- Ensure policies and best practices are adhered to by staff.
- Identify gaps in the operation and identify resources to develop solutions.
- Oversee staff allocation, assignments, and training in the branches.
- Create a workplace culture that is consistent with the Department’s identified mission and guiding principles.
- Participate in the development, formulation, implementation, and evaluation of new and existing policies and procedures for Adult Services.
- Develop staff through coaching and mentoring.
- Plan, direct, implement, evaluate pilot programs and new initiatives.
- Implement effective methods for data collection and analyze outcomes and make adjustments to attain desired results.
- Provides oversight and direction to employees in accordance with the Departments’ policies and procedures.
- Establish a culture of accountability by communicating clear expectations and following up to ensure that goals are achieved accurately and within the designated timelines.
- Participate in the ongoing review and evaluation of employee performance and initiate necessary corrective action.
- Act as a liaison between the Department of Probation and other agencies or programs.
- Prepare critical incident reports in an accurate and timely manner.
- Attend periodic meetings with stakeholders such as judges, Defense Counsel, the Police Department, and various other city agencies, on behalf of the Assistant Commissioner.
Qualifications
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of full-time paid experience in counseling or casework in a recognized agency adhering to acceptable standards in probation, parole, social services, psychiatric or medical social work or related field, at least 18 months of which must have been in a responsible supervisory, administrative or consultative capacity performing activities related to the duties of the position; or
A combination of education and/or experience equivalent to “1” above. However, all candidates must have at least 18 months of experience in an administrative, managerial, executive, consultative, executive capacity or supervising personnel performing activities related to the duties of the position.
