Senior Bridge & Structures Project Engineer 1
Summary

The Senior Bridge and Structures Project Engineer 1 is responsible for leading the structural design and analysis efforts on a variety of engineering projects. The person in this position must be licensed to serve as engineer-of-record on assigned projects in the state of primary practice or should be licensed in a different state with the ability to get the required license within 6 months of hire. The person in this position should show a strong working knowledge in AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications; and/or the International Building Code and ASCE 7: Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures. The person in this position should be able to quickly learn and apply other design codes as needed. The person in this position will lead bridge engineering efforts on highly complex projects and will be a contributing expert to the advancement of the field of structural engineering. The person in this position will provide leadership and guidance to less experienced team members, senior level review and oversight on a variety of simple to complex projects.

Leads large structural design teams (3-5 people) to complete structural tasks. Structures lead overseeing delivery of structures work on large, complex projects. Actively mentors others.

Project Delivery Prepares structural calculations and cost estimates independently Red lines plans for CAD Writes technical specifications and develops contract plans independently Assembles structural calculation books Oversees file management Advanced understanding of multi-discipline project delivery Actively mentors others and mentors CAD staff in plan development Improves or develops internal processes (e.g., checklists) Understanding Budget and Schedule

Advanced understanding of scopes, schedules, and budgets (i.e., estimate schedule for complex tasks). Able to predict and deliver individual tasks within a set level of effort. Able to consistently meet budget and schedule expectations on projects. Develops budgets and schedules for complex projects. Breaks down complex projects into logical tasks. Able to prioritize multiple assignments to successfully deliver all assigned projects on time and on budget. Mentors others on above.

Industry Standards and Regulations

Expert understanding of standard design codes. Understands limitations of design codes. Understands when deviation from design codes is appropriate. Actively mentors others in design code deviations and interpretation. Improves or develops design code provisions (e.g., ODOT BDM, etc.).

Client Interaction

Answers questions and resolves issues related to individual design tasks. Resolves project issues on moderate to complex projects. Presents solutions on complex projects. Comfortable leading client meetings. Consistently use appropriate communication tools (e.g., email versus phone) and understands appropriate messaging. Understands legal risks. Develops concepts for pursuits. Participates in project interviews. Actively mentors others on above. Engages as industry expert on complex projects and pursuits.

Level of Work/Accountability

Efficiently performs the most technically complex and demanding technical work without supervision. Reviews the work of others and mentors others on complex project tasks. May also perform project management duties as needed.
