Senior Budget Analyst

Job Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the AVP for Budget and Planning, the Senior Budget Analyst is responsible for assisting with all aspects of the budget process and budget management, with gathering, analyzing and presenting financial and statistical data on analytical projects, and with maintaining University budget policies, systems, and procedures.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist with the development and monitoring of the University's annual operating budget.

Serve as Budget Office liaison to specific academic and administrative units of the University as assigned.

Provide budget analyses and forecasts for leadership decision making and for internal and external audiences.

Assist with the development of personnel and fringe budgets.

Assist with long-range financial projections potentially including, but not limited to, auxiliary services, financial aid, state funding allocations, faculty teaching load, and others. 

Use a variety of data systems and spreadsheets to analyze student enrollment, personnel headcount and other statistical data that impact financials.

Use the University's financial system to create or approve budget journals and transfers.

Assist with the development of budgeting and reporting software used by Budget & Planning.

Work with partners in Finance & Treasury, Facilities, and other administrative departments on areas of shared interest.

Uphold and support existing University policies and procedures and make recommendations that enhance its business practices.

Serve on ad hoc committees and task forces, etc., as assigned.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance or related field.

Minimum of five years of experience in a budget, finance, or related analytical role.

Knowledge of basic budget analysis techniques.

Advanced Excel skills.

Experience with computer systems for finance and budgeting.

Ability to communicate financial concepts to a variety of employees in the University.

Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and learn new systems.

PREFERRED:

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in related field.

Experience working in a university or large non-profit setting.

Knowledge of Workday Financials.
