Your Role:

The main purpose of the role is to oversee a high standard of underwriting integrity by the Business Package team by approving referrals and providing coaching, feedback and guidance to staff.  

The role will also deliver the peer review process, directly handle referrals as required and support the Product team in delivering the underwriting strategy to deliver financial goals.

Your Responsibilities:

Underwriting and Underwriting Integrity
• Be the main referral point for the underwriting team to approve referrals for those without the relevant underwriting authority or that require additional consideration.
• Ensure referrals (new business, renewals and any type of mid term adjustments) are underwritten in line with the underwriting strategy and in accordance with authority statements. 
• Provide guidance and coaching to staff on the underwriting decision making process of referrals.  For junior staff this includes quality underwriting fundamentals and for more experienced staff includes writing good quality heavier risks that are priced adequately.
• Underwrite referrals directly via Market Facing Platforms as required.   
• Deliver Peer Reviews in accordance with the Chubb Overseas General requirements.
• Implement any relevant audit actions.
• Support and/or lead structured learning and development for the team.
• Make recommendations to the Product team on pricing, rules and acceptance or declination of risks.
• Provide input on portfolio analysis, profitability, premium planning, market environment analysis, process efficiency, underwriting guidelines, post acceptance monitoring etc.
• Maintain awareness of claims activity and liaise with stakeholders.
• Maintain open communication with internal departments on risks, coverage’s, exposures, service problems and losses.

Financial 
• Achieve the financial targets including new business, rate, retention, optimal portfolio mix and loss ratio.

• 5+ years of underwriting experience in the Australian Business Package market place.
• A demonstrable high degree of technical underwriting ability. 
• Understands and can implement underwriting strategy balancing profitability and growth.
• Looks for solutions to unique underwriting situations.
• Makes recommendations for tailoring coverage and manuscripting policies.
• Familiar with the products / services of key competitors.
• Comfortable with a wide range of negotiation techniques.
• Clear and concise communicator.
• Demonstrated ability to work well with people and influence decisions.
• Understand and interpret policy wordings
