Job Summary: Determines sources and orders supplies/equipment for hospital departments. Meets with vendor representatives to receive product information, negotiate supply/equipment pricing, arrange product returns/credits, coordinates vendor contracts with hospital departments and obtains products for evaluation. Attends assigned meetings, ensures correct contract tier pricing, and provides product information to using departments.
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None.
Work Experience: 6 months - 1 year related experience; buyer experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledgeable in Microsoft word and excel.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Expedites order and receipt of emergency or special orders; ensures product availability for daily operations. Interviews vendor representatives according to departmental scheduling and time guidelines to obtain product information or other vendor services. Discusses new products and cost reduction opportunities with vendor representatives. Review inventory and non-inventory items for possible savings and advises users or appropriate committee; maintains a record or cost reductions. Utilizes the Materials Management system, EDI, FAX, telephone, or mail to generate and forward purchase orders to vendors timely and appropriately. Updates the Materials Management computer system with current and accurate information. Consults with department managers, groups or physicians and attends appropriate meetings to recommend cost saving changes or provide the purchasing department support and coordinate purchasing services. Provides pricing information in a timely manner. Prepares reports and spreadsheets to analyze pricing, usage, and other factors regarding supplies/services to support purchasing decisions and provide information for contract negotiations or purchase agreements.
