Objectives of the Position:
• Advanced know-how in pigment dispersion/qualification for automotive coatings for water borne and solvent borne technologies.
• Drives pigment dispersion/qualification activities and promote know-how exchange and collaboration within the Coatings Business Unit.
• In depth knowledge of coating formulations, coating additives, solvents, paste grinding process, pigment and color science.
• Deep understanding of coating test methods and customer specification (incl. ASTM, DIN and GB standard) for basecoat technology
• Advanced knowledge and experience in pneumatic application and electrostatic application
• Exercise a high level of good housekeeping and Health and Safety Awareness within the Lab and ensure others to do the same.
Main Tasks
• Drive advanced activities on pigment dispersion and evaluation according to standard SOP/customer requirements.
• Co-work with all relevant stakeholders to ensure successful of new pigment and paste usage.
• Instruct paste upscale to ensure technology transfer from lab phase to production phase.
• Communicate with raw material suppliers for screening / introducing new raw materials.
• Promotes know-how exchange and collaboration within Global pigment committee to build up pigment qualification competence.
• Promote know-how exchange and collaboration within Coatings Business Unit.
• Implement and maintain BASF global EHS norms
• Guides and provides required training for the work of one or more chemists or technicians and supervises visiting students or scientists on temporary assignments.
• Writes comprehensive reports and evaluations on data obtained from experimentation and orally present observations, conclusions and recommendations to persons in areas of the company’s interests.
• Proactively assist activities for Digitech or Digitalization with advanced understanding.
• Work on toolbox management activities and contribute to lean toolbox.
Minimum Education and Qualification Required for the Position:
• Education: Bachelor / Master or Ph.D in technology, preferably, Chemistry/Polymer/Engineering materials, ideally, pigment preparation experience is preferred.
• Fundamentally, know-how on particles stabilization in water borne formulations.
• Be a proactive team player, show initiative and creativity.
• Fluent English (reading, writing and presenting)
