Senior Civil Construction Inspector

HDR is seeking a full-time employee to fill the role of Senior Construction Inspector in the Kansas City Region. This role will likey include assignments on Major Bridge Inspection and other various DOT/Muncipal Transportation projects.

Primary Responsibilities:

In the role of Senior Civil Construction Inspector, we'll count on you to:

Conduct and document observations of construction as it progresses for civil projects related to civil infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, class 1 railroad projects, water/wastewater facilities, pump stations and pipelinesMentor junior field staff and provide supervision as neededCollaborate with other field representatives or Project ManagersRead and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documentsConduct and document observations of construction as it progressesWrite reports to document field inspections and tests performedEnter and record information regarding construction projects into computer programs and DOT reporting softwareServe as the most senior inspector on projects as neededPerform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

Technical school or Associate degreeRelevant Industry CertificationsAbility to interpret construction schedulesExperience in construction and/or construction inspection of heavy civil infrastructure that may include: highways, bridges, buildings, or railroadsLicensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with applicable state lawThe ability to exercise deductive reasoning and independently resolve problemsExperience using survey equipment to check and confirm constructionDepartment of Transportation technician testing certifications. Or, certifications through other technical organizations such as: the American Concrete Institute (ACI) or the American Traffic Safety Services Administration (ATSSA)OSHA 10 Hr CertificationPerform field materials sampling and testing that includes tests for: concrete slump and air content, concrete compressive specimens, compaction, moisture, and aggregate gradationPerform measurements and calculations necessary to determine quantity of work performed and materials requiredCompose reports with a daily log of construction activities, personnel assigned, equipment used, weather conditions, and other information pertinent to the progress of the workAbility to navigate through outdoor construction sites by walking, navigating slopes, hills and other rough terrain or obstacles to facilitate completion of assigned tasks in all seasons and environmental conditionsAbility to climb ladders, scaffolding, and navigate structures of varying heightsAbility to lift and carry equipment necessary for performance of inspections and testingSkills to perform basic mathematical calculations in geometery and algebraAbility to work overtimeRequired QualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalent A minimum of 5 years experience Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook) Strong written communication skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team This position typically requires successfully passing drug-screening procedures prior to being hired; thereafter subject to random and cause drug and alcohol testing An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
