Senior Commercial Underwriter

Job Description

The Senior Commercial Underwriter plays a key role in assessing and managing risks associated with business lines of credit. Your expertise will be instrumental in making informed credit decisions for floorplan lines, floorplan buyouts and other commercial lending, including real estate and revolving lines of credit. Responsible for facets of commercial credit packages, including clear communication of risks and any recommended mitigation strategies, consulting with Legal to protect interests, maintenance of UCC filings, and review of loan documentation prior to funding.

 

Underwrite commercial loan requests for new and existing relationships Conduct comprehensive analysis of loan applications, including analyzing financial statements, tax returns, credit reports, bank statements and other relevant documentation to assess creditworthiness Cash flow analysis and pro forma forecasting and scaling Full understanding of business entity legal ownership structure and clear, concise explanation of those structures; ensure appropriate security (guarantees, collateralization) are recommended per both the risk profile and ownership structure Exercise credit authority to make informed decisions or direct package decisioning to the appropriate authority level; present and communicate package details as required by that authority level, including recommendation Ownership of UCC filing process, ensuring legal security matches that defined in the credit package Work closely with relationship managers, clients, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information to provide insights into credit decisions Maintain a customer focus throughout the underwriting process; no shortcuts, but be aware of timing and relevance of requests of dealers to the final product Develop comprehensive legal contract packages for commercial loans encompassing all pertinent terms, conditions, and legal requirements Final review of loan documentation and audit prior to loan funding Monitor and review existing loan portfolios, conduct periodic reviews, and recommend appropriate actions to mitigate risk and ensure portfolio quality Ad hoc projects as needed Superior analytical skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Outstanding organizational and project management skills to balance portfolio management and deal execution responsibilities Demonstrated interpersonal skills to collaborate with teammates, plants, senior management, and clients Strong work ethic with an ability to meet deadlines while multi-tasking Recognized leadership capabilities and executive presentation skills Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner Strong understanding of financial analysis, risk assessment, and credit decision-making process Strong attention to detail and accuracy Ability to work effectively in a team environment

 

Requirements

BA/BS degree required 5+ years of Commercial lending experience or equivalent including credit, structuring, financial statement analysis and marketing experience Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, ranging from intermediate to advance skill levels, including expertise in data analysis and interpretation and advanced formulas and functions.
