The role
As a Senior Commissioning Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll conduct the role of shift manager, leading a team of Commissioning Engineers and industrial staff who will be carrying out commissioning activities on the most complex machines on the planet.
In preparation for their role, successful candidates will undertake a comprehensive training programme; we will train and develop you to become a subject matter expert in commissioning and submarine systems.
Day-to-day, you’ll be supporting commissioning activities to ensure the systems perform to the highest standards of safety in your discipline (Mechanical, Electrical or Constructive (Naval Architecture)
Lead a team of skilled engineers to carry out the inspection, testing and commissioning of submarine systems. Overseeing fault finding diagnosis and proposing and implementing corrective solutions where required, e.g. visual inspections, pressure testing, system flushing, equipment and system operations, electrical preoperational checks, insulation resistance checks, load testing. Design, implementation and authorisation of safe isolations to allow intrusive work to take place on submarine systems in accordance with safe system of work management arrangements. Researching, compiling and authorising technical documentation to support commissioning activities and deliverables. Within this safety critical role, a Senior Commissioning Engineer reports to their manager and is responsible for adhering to the Health and Safety at Work regulations and conforming to appropriate Engineering Quality and Nuclear standards. Providing leadership, direction and supervision to a team of Commissioning Engineers. Carry out line management responsibilities including pastoral support and lead others in their professional development. Promote and maintain effective working relationships within our teams with our internal stakeholders and our external stakeholders including the Royal Navy, Ministry of Defence and subcontractors.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience of the Senior Commissioning Engineer
Knowledge of Commissioning principles and processes including isolation methodologies. Knowledge and experiences of submarine operation and/or maintenance. Extensive experience in an engineering role/discipline (Electrical, Mechanical or Constructive). Experience of using technical system drawings and associated documentation. Good planning, organisation and time management skills.
Qualifications for the Senior Commissioning Engineer
Completed a recognised Level 4 qualification/Engineering Apprenticeship Degree in an Engineering discipline
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
