Senior Commissioning Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Commissioning Engineer to join our Austin office. The commissioning team is involved with the quality assurance and updating processes of engineered systems in the built environment. Commissioning in accordance with ASHRAE and other international guidelines are utilized to guide Arup’s World-Class approach to commissioning. We are involved in four major types of the commissioning projects, Commissioning, Retro-Commissioning, Re-Commissioning, and Continuous Commissioning. As a team we also embark on other aspects of operational improvements of existing facilities, utilizing commissioning techniques to plan, analyze, track, model, and implement improved building controls, energy systems and reliability. **The opportunity** + Lead and handle commissioning efforts on projects from inception to completion, ensuring consistency to industry standard processes. + Develop and implement commissioning plans, procedures, and documentation to align with ASHRAE, BxCA, AEE, NFPA, and other relevant standards. + Be responsible for system performance analyses using historical data, site measurements, and trending to identify and resolve deficiencies. + Collaborate with clients, design teams, and contractors to establish project goals, review system designs, and verify installation compliance. + Perform and supervise field assessments to validate system operation, solve issues, and recommend corrective actions. + Deploy metering/monitoring devices to assess system efficiency and find opportunities for optimization. + Develop detailed reports and presentations to communicate findings, commissioning progress, and performance improvements to team members. + Support the professional growth of junior commissioning engineers through technical mentorship. + Manage commissioning tasks associated with LEED, WELL, and other sustainability certifications. + Conduct ASHRAE energy audits and provide recommendations for energy conservation measures. + Optimize control strategies for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems to enhance energy efficiency and building performance. + Review and interpret project documentation, including scopes of work, specifications, design drawings, RFIs, submittals, O&M manuals, and systems manuals. + Support business development initiatives, including proposal writing, client meetings, and presentations. You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve. **Is this role right for you?** **Qualifications** + Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related technical field. + Minimum 8 years of professional experience in HVAC and controls, with a strong background in design, construction, energy evaluation, and commissioning. + Strong leadership skills with experience handling commissioning processes and multidisciplinary teams. + Proficiency in building automation systems (BAS) and experience with controls, test & balance, and troubleshooting of building systems. + Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical team members. + Shown problem-solving ability, analytical mindset, and attention to detail. + Experience with energy modeling tools and data analytics for performance optimization. + Working knowledge of sustainability frameworks such as LEED and WELL. + Commissioning-related certifications (e.g., CxA, CCP, BCxP) or progress toward certification is highly desirable. + Ability to work both in the field and at a desk, balancing hands-on commissioning activities with reporting and client interactions. **Notable Projects:** For over seven decades Arup has been at the forefront of the most ambitious and innovative design and engineering.
