Hatch is currently seeking a Senior Communications Engineer with specialized skills in Rail Systems, to join our Western Canada team and work on delivering an existing and future portfolio of projects.

 

Responsibilities:

Have strong understanding of Communication systems and extensive experience of their implementation. Lead the development and implementation of cybersecurity strategies for rail and transit projects. Oversee the integration of cybersecurity measures throughout the project life cycle. Develop conceptual and detailed design drawings for Communications system specific to Rail systems projects such as fibre optic and IP backbone networks, radio systems, integrated communications systems, passenger information systems, telephony, CCTV, PA, intrusion and access control, SCADA, fire alarm etc. Produce system design deliverables such as block diagrams, riser diagrams, network diagrams, systems and equipment layouts, schedules, bill of materials, radio and optical link budgets, and others. Generate design reports and specifications for all phases of the system design throughout the project life cycle. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure seamless integration of communication systems with other rail infrastructure. Oversee the Installation, Testing & Commissioning, Cutover, Record Drawings of communication systems to ensure compliance with project requirements and standards. Interface with other technical disciplines and participate in multi-disciplinary collaboration. Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations and project specifications. Support the management of System Interfaces and creation of Interface Control Documents (ICDs). Perform technical review of other team members’ designs. Participate in project pursuit efforts.

 

 

Requirements:

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in communications engineering, electrical engineering, information technology, or equivalent. Minimum 10 years of experience in designing and implementing communication systems for rail or transportation projects. Knowledge of industry standards and regulations including CEC, NFPA, TIA, BICSI Experience with rail systems in Western Canada preferred. Experience in design of the following: Fibre optic and IP backbone networks, radio systems, integrated communications systems, passenger information systems, telephony, CCTV, PA, intrusion and access control, SCADA, fire alarm etc. Knowledge of Cybersecurity system engineering and security risk assessment. Proficiency in communication system design tools and software. Experience participating in Testing & Commissioning, Cutover, Interface Management and Operations & Maintenance. Accustomed to operating within a multi-disciplinary project structure with responsibility for Communications systems design. Able to multitask concurrent projects. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

 

Desired qualifications:

Professional Engineer, or willingness to obtain designation; and/or RCDD designations are a plus. Understanding of budget development and cost estimates. Certifications and experience with Cisco products/technologies.
