The Division of Aging Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders, in the Department of Neurology at OHSU, has a robust research program, including an active clinical trials program and an NIH/NIA-funded Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC). Our investigative teams participate in national and international efforts to understand and develop treatments for Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. We conduct studies of promising treatments, technologies for patient support, genetics, neuroimaging, and pathology.
Function/Duties of PositionThis position supports the mission, goals and objectives of the division by working closely with the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) Outreach, Engagement and Recruitment (ORE) Core, as well as the Clinical, Data and Administrative Cores to identify, build and maintain relationships in the region that serve as sources of study recruitment and participant retention.
This person will be responsible for educating communities and individuals on the ADRC’s research and specific studies, as well as pre-screening persons and assisting with their enrollment into trials and other research studies. They use their knowledge, experience, and connections to support study enrollment, address enrollment/recruitment barriers, and creation of future enrollment and recruitment strategies.
This position will work to coordinate the outreach, recruitment, and engagement activities of the division across a number of programs to ensure the goals of both the division and studies are being met. This person is responsible for the volunteer recruitment program for complex clinical trials, working with the ACTC RER unit, working with the CLARiTI recruitment team, and the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Centers recruitment efforts. Exercises judgement and seeks advice when necessary.
We are looking for someone who is highly organized, motivated, and able to communicate effectively and professionally (verbally including in person, by phone and video call, as well as in writing) with Alzheimer’s Center faculty and staff, study participants and other departments at OHSU. The person will keep track of many complex research study protocols and help navigate interested persons into the right study, as well as innovate strategies to attract and retain diverse and plentiful research subjects.

Maintain an active list of all recruiting research opportunities availableManage the responsibilities and outreach opportunities attended by other Community Research Liaisons in the divisionMeet enrollment goals for trials, working with communities to improve inclusiveness and representativeness of trialsBuild community engaged research capacity and community-academic partnershipsTravel to local and national meetingsImplement and manage recruitment and retention for research projects for a variety of stakeholders Serve as the liaison between OHSU and community for research projectsLeads or participates on advisory and internal/external committeesAssists with grant funding efforts and activitiesLiaison with clinicians and clinics throughout the stateReviews medical records and conducts screenings for study recruitment Required Qualifications Master's in relevant field AND 5 years of relevant experience OR Bachelor's in relevant field AND 9 years of relevant experience.Demonstrated ability to communicate (written and verbal) and interact skillfully with investigators, staff, and researchers; work both as a team member and independently without continuous supervision; work with overlapping projects and with sensitive and confidential information; adapt to a dynamic and deadline-driven, customer service-oriented environment. Experience in human subjects’ research. Comfortable talking with study participants about sensitive topics and maintaining confidentiality. Able to work at a high academic professional level, as well as being completely personable in a diversity of one-on-one patient/participant/community interactions. Experience working with seniors and diverse (racial, ethnic, rural/urban, persons across the income and education spectrum and sex and gender) populations. Experience with video conferencing software.Ability to manage strategic plans and activities and implement and manage research projects for a variety of stakeholders. Able to lead coalition building - inspires trust and on-going strategic fruitful engagement.Ability to apply critical thinking to analyze and interpret information and/or data. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of gerontology and diseases of aging, specifically Alzheimer’s/dementia. Experience working with historically underrepresented-in-health-research communities and the ability to speak, read and write in more than the English language. Experience with academic publishing and community-academic presentations.Statistical and data analysis; grant writing and reporting; and with REDCap.
