Senior Compliance Officer
Date: Dec 21, 2024 Location: San Juan, PR Company: Popular Workplace Type: Hybrid Senior Compliance Officer General Description This position requires providing support in the oversight and management of Popular, Inc.’s issues management-related processes across the Corporation as well as with the tracking and update of policies and procedures. The issues management processes include the monitoring, analysis and documentation of issues, which are defined as deficient practices that result in the actual or potential non-compliance with any law or regulation that addresses consumer protection, that are escalated by different business and support units across Popular to the Regulatory and Financial Compliance Division. The role requires completion of a thorough analysis of all issues, including ensuring that consumer harm and/or consumer impact is identified, remediation and/or corrective action is completed, and tracking the implementation of these measures by the business and support units. The position also requires monitoring business and support unit’s issue escalation practices, and the reporting to management of data and information related to issues, including analysis of high-risk issues. The policy management function entails the management of the inventory of compliance related policies and procedures and coordination to ensure they are revised according to schedule or as needed in response to change management processes. Employee will also provide support, as needed, in order to ensure compliance with the requirements of the corporate policy on policies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Monitor and ensure compliance of the issue management and escalation process across Popular as established in corporate policies and procedures, internal guidelines, and regulatory requirements. • Provide support in monitoring the issues management processes, including the analysis on an ongoing basis of open issues and the completion of all pending corrective actions and remediation on a a timely basis. This includes: (1) reviewing the documentation submitted by business and support units to ensure information is accurate and complete, (2) ensuring issue information in the issues management platform is up to date with additional information obtained throughout the management of the issue, (3) analyzing issues to ensure they are effectively managed and the approach for corrective actions and remediations as outlined in the action plans submitted by the business and support units is appropriate, (4) holding meetings with business and support units and compliance officers assigned to said units to obtain updates on the status of the management of issues, (5) providing guidance to businesses and support units in the review and improvement of internal issue management and escalation processes and procedures, (6) communicating effectively and proactively with business and support units to obtain additional information needed to complete issue analysis and ensure proper documentation of the management of issues, including the remediation implemented and the corrective action taken, (7) reviewing documentation provided by business and support units to close issues, and ensure the documentation is accurate and complete. • Ensure that the policy and procedure inventory for processes that have regulatory compliance implications is complete at all times. Coordinate review processes with business and support unit to ensure that all documents in the inventory are reviewed and updated in a timely manner. Provide support as necessary in the management of the corporate policy on policies. • Prepare, collect and draft reports, working papers, presentations and Committee reports related to the management of issues and policies and procedures. • Prepare, collect and draft narratives or reports to respond in a timely fashion to all information requests in connection with regulatory agencies and examinations. • Prepare, collect and draft narratives or reports to respond in a timely fashion to all information requests in connection with internal audits, and other testing and assessment examinations. • Devise, develop and launch issue management projects that will enhance business and support units’ compliance with Popular’s issue management program. • Provide support to the Supervisor in all matters detailed above, and any additional matters that may arise. Education Bachelor’s Degree required. Juris Doctor, CRCM or PMP preferred. Experience At least 5 years of regulatory compliance experience. Other Qualifications • Must have excellent written and oral communication (Spanish and English) and interpersonal skills to manage expectations of senior business stakeholders and relationships with business and support unit contacts. • Must have good time management and organizational skills. Candidate should be able to prioritize tasks efficiently in order to manage and comply with multiple and tight deadlines. • Must have strong analytical and critical thinking skills; this includes the ability to analyze issues with a risk-based approach. • Must have the ability to support the development, implementation and execution of high impact business transformation strategies. • Must have the ability to research, track, update, and communicate compliance issues as well as matters related to policies and procedures. Candidate should stay well-informed about current regulatory trends and issues as it applies to job responsibilities in order to complete daily and periodic tasks. • Must have the ability to influence others, be process driven, and have high attention to detail. • Must have the ability to manage high volume of tasks and deadlines, and to deliver results under pressure.
