HDR is seeking a Senior Construction Engineer, Structural to join our Transportation – Construction Services group to work on the Ontario Line Project. Reporting to the Project Manager/Construction Manager, you will be helping to successfully deliver to completion of two segmental bridges for the Don Valley Crossing project as part of Ontario Line. HDR is the Technical Advisor for the Ontario Line Program responsible to help deliver one of the largest ever urban transit light-rail infrastructure projects in Toronto.

In the role of the Senior Construction Engineer, your primary responsibilities include:

Attend the project site, full-time, during construction to review progress, and to verify and validate construction works are conforming to contract documents, specifications, and drawings.Implement established project verification proceduresLiaise with contractors and client representativesAttend and lead internal and external meetings, as necessaryReview and confirm contractor submitted shop drawings are in conformance to contract documentsCoordinate quality assurance reviews with structural engineering team and with other Subject Matter ExpertsPrepare status reports, observation check lists, daily and weekly reports, and other quality documentationCollaboratively work with a team of construction professionals, engineers, and technologists to complete daily field observations and document system assurance itemsMentor and oversee and train junior staff, as necessaryPromote and oversee implementation of health and safety regulationsOther duties as assigned.Preferred QualificationsA minimum 5 years of experience on large bridge construction projects, preferably with advanced bridge construction methods involving bridge post-tensioning and segmental bridge construction.Knowledge and skill in interpreting and applying transportation construction practices; procedures and quality assurance techniques.Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Laws and Regulations (Environmental, Health and Safety, etc.) and their application in construction contracts.Ability to organize, prioritize and schedule work.Ability to analyze and solve problems.Must have strong people skills and the ability to interact with the owner, design project manager, contractor project manager and/or superintendent, and members of the public.Be comfortable and be physically capable of working on construction sites at large heights.Valid G Driver’s License and ability to drive to site(s) with own vehicle.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or closely related field 10 years related experience in various aspects of construction including estimating, bidding, preparing purchase orders and subcontracts, scheduling, and field engineering Professional Engineer (PE) license Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); Bluebeam, estimating scheduling software, and web-based document collaboration software Experience developing and managing construction engineering and inspection programs Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
