To support the continued growth of our Sustainable Finance, Climate and Biodiversity Policy practice, we are looking for an experienced Senior Consultant to join our team in Brussels, Spain or London. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team and support our diverse policy work, with a focus on carbon removals. You will have the opportunity to work on current studies ICF is delivering which aim to support the development of the European carbon removals and carbon storage markets.

Supporting the European Commission with the development of methodologies for the certification of industrial carbon removals with permanent storageSupporting the European Commission and EFTA Surveillance Authority with the review of draft storage permits under Directive 2009/31/EC on the geological storage of CO2Providing continuous expertise to DG Climate Action since 2019 to support the successful implementation of the EU Emissions Trading System’s Innovation Fund – one of the largest demonstration programmes in the worldSupporting the design of decarbonisation strategies and transition pathways at EU and national levelSupporting the development of a long-term research and innovation agenda towards 2050 climate neutrality (see report here)Responsibilities:
You will work as part of a multi-national, multi-disciplinary and collaborative team of climate and environmental experts, economists, engineers, financial experts, and communication specialists to:
Support the delivery of projects for public and private clientsSupport the management of projects and take the lead in the deployment of discrete tasks and activitiesProvide robust and sound qualitative and quantitative analysis and support the translation of complex data into meaningful and impactful recommendationsEngage with stakeholders through both quantitative and qualitative surveysSupport ICF’s thought leadership in carbon removals, identifying emerging trends and opportunities and help to translate these into new service offers that will benefit clientsRequired qualifications & skills:
Fluency in spoken English and excellent English writing skillsMaster’s degree in climate, geological or environmental sciences, environmental economics, environmental engineering, political sciences, or a related disciplineProfessional working experience of 4-6 years in the field of carbon removals at EU level, with an excellent understanding of the latest policy developments (e.g. Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming Regulation; CCS Directive; Net Zero Industry Act; Climate Law; EU ETS; etc.) Demonstrable experience of private and /or public policy project delivery and managementStrong qualitative and quantitative analysis capability, including advanced knowledge of Excel and equivalent toolsProven communication skills and track record in the field of stakeholder engagement, especially within public authorities and the business and finance communityAbility to work independently as well as within multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary consulting teams spread across several countries and time zonesPreferred qualifications & skills
